Rumor has it that Worms HD, a remake of the Team17 Software Lemmings take-off, is in the works for Xbox Live Arcade.
The game is said to be officially announced at CES next month, and hitting the Arcade shortly thereafter. The game will be a reworked, easier to play version of the original that will take up all 50MB of allowed space. The team, rumor has it, is already working on downloadable content for the game.
Worms to be released hot on the heels of CES? [XBLArcade]

Um, hell yeah! Worms 2d kicks some serious ass..... It had better have an online multiplayer mode though....
Worms wasn't a take-off of Lemmings, it was a take-off of games like Scorched Earth (you could perhaps argue that the cartoony graphics and morbid sense of humor were inspired by Lemmings). I certainly hope it's the 2D version, as that's still one of the most entertaining games out there (the 3D version was damn near unplayable in my opinion), and a great fit for XBL multiplayer.
agree Ikthog.... both with the scorched earth being its "rip off" and I swear it better be the 2D version, which is so fun...
Holy Hand Grenade!
Wasn't the holy hand grenade a nod to Monty Python?
Yeah it was. Worms 2D was always excellent fun (Armageddon being my fave) and I hope it translates well to XBL. I always loved the sheep the most!
YES!!! Worms on XBL arcade?! Ohhhh that's so sweet!
Ikthog, It says it's a remake .. and if the name is Worms HD, than it's got to be a remake of the 2D original.
I can't wait!!!
Damn, why do I have to post again for my comments to come thru?! It's been doing this lots lately ..
Worms has always been one of my favorite series, up until the 3D versions came out. I definately lost interest. I'm thinking they may reedem themselves with this one, though. Please let this one be good! *crosses fingers*
As long as they bring back the Priceless Ming Vase (which appears to have disappeared from the 3D Worms games) I'll be happy with this.
Sounds great, much like the name Wii, one can have lots of fun saying "Hey everyone, I've got Worms!". I do wonder what "a reworked, easier to play version" means though, I hope that means it's been fixed to use a joypad rather than dumbed down in some way.
This will be awesome, but you have to wonder, why original Worms? The series markedly improved with each version all the way through to Armageddon. No reason to do such a retread.
Unless the 50MB limit is hurting these conversions again? We'll have to wait and see what they really mean by "Worms HD" I guess.
Worms is more of a party game that I always enjoyed with the company of others. The negotiating, backstabbing, and alliances were the best part. Not sure how well this aspect will work online.
Spare a thought for Boggie,
And with it, his friend
Fight, in their honor
Fight, to the end
this brings back so many memories of my first video game experiences with worms. one of the greatest games in my opinion. i hope that they dont just remake one of them, but put in all the good aspects of them all.
...prod
Their should be demos that aren't restricted to memory card space... How many people actually use memory cards to store games these days anyhow?
i know poeple that use mem cards, but they shouldnt be able to ruin the fun for the rest of us...
I hope its the 2D version but HELL YES! I was always hopin this would come out on XBLA.
please no microtransactions no microtransactions no microtransactions no microtransactions no microtransactions no miocrotransactions
please please please don't let this turn out like Lumines, and you end up having to dish out cash to access the other half of your weapon selection(IE: the rest of the game).
Game of the Year 2007? Anyone? Anyone?
i vote for Castle Crashers instead of Worms...but that's my opinion...
ZOMG i miss Scorched Earth...i RULED that game in my programming class...

Does this mean they may remove the cap for the Live Arcade games?
After all it was limited to the optional memory unit of 64MB, and since there is a 256MB one coming out ... hmmmmm!

FINALLY!!! Why in the world has it taken THIS long to bring Worms online? When I first saw Worms for the DS, it screamed NiWiFi, but alas, it did not have it. Now I know how I will be spending my late nights in my dark apartment.
