What a roller coaster ride for PC shooter fans today.
This morning Worthplaying broke the news of a rumored sequel to Soldier of Fortune II: Double Helix. This afternoon Activision has confirmed to Kotaku that the rumors are true:
Soldier of Fortune: Pay Back is being published by Activision's Minneapolis office. We have no further information to share at this point, but hope to very soon.
A statement which immediately made me bounce up and down in my swively office chair. But soon after, a tipster sent us word of the state of the game. Someone who says they've actually seen it in early development.
The news is actually almost entirely good. The tipster says the game, even in the very early stages of development, looked great. The goal, at some point, was to include 36 separation points on each character model, which means gibs galore, and the developers hope to also support destructible environments. In fact the only upsetting thing the tipster said was that the game wasn't being developed by Raven Soft... Why...WHYYYYYY do you tease me so.
