Eight Days & Getaway 3 Will Be A While

watchedpot.jpg When first trotting out the PS3 for a public look-see in 05/06, two "games" Sony showed off were Eight Days and Getaway 3. Hope you weren't expecting them any time soon (or honestly believed what you saw was real in any way), because The Guardian have been told by Sony London that Eight Days has only just entered full production, and that Getaway 3 is in pre-production, and will only kick it up a notch when Eight Days is finished. Seeing how well-received the first two Getaway games were, I don't know how they hope to keep our expectations in check for that long.

  • So when they say the game has only entered production recently, what does that exactly mean? That they have been "designing" since 2005 without writing any code whatsoever?

  • Probably designing the engine?

  • What the f*ck? By the time it comes out, I'll lose interest already, just like with Too Human. Do all Sony Europe's employee works on Killzone 2 or something? So no employees left to work on other project?

  • Pre-rendered footage FTW!

  • Don't be silly guys, we've all seen the trailer for Eight Days, its been in full production for ages. What they must mean is that its just gone gold or something like that. I mean.... otherwise I might feel that there was some dishonesty about that game.

  • I'm glad the PS3 has so many games in the pipeline. They've got a very long-term calendary and schedule going. I like that they aren't playing all their cards as quickly as possible. Just counting Sony-published software, I can think of a steady flow for the long haul: Wipeout HD, Little Big Planet, Socom, Killzone 2, Resistance 2 this year... next year, God of War 3, Uncharted 2, Gran Turismo 5, likely another Ratchet & Clank game (Insomniac has always been consistent to release a game a year, haven't they?), and maybe even a new Jak & Daxter game. 2010, Getaway 3, Eight Days, new Team Ico Game, and who knows what else. At least it seems they've got a pipeline leading all the way forward to 2 years ahead. And I'm sure there's even stuff in the works we know nothing about.

    I wonder if Heavy Rain will be published by Sony?

  • Guess they spent too much time and resources on a pre-rendered film....

  • Oh Luke, you're so sassy and yes, those were target renders but if Killzone 2 has taught us anything it's that, not unlike dreams, target renders can come true too if you pray hard enough.

    Sorta.

    @rich8606:
    SCEE doesn't work on Killzone 2..That's Guerilla Games.

  • @enewtabie:
    ...read the article? - they help out other studios inc Guerilla

    ...and also, i wander how much sooner these games would be ready if they weren't working on Home, I can't imagine it being worth the sacrifice.

  • @Strange Bedfellows: This is why i know I will be buying a PS3 before the year is up. Lots of games coming in the near and far future. Love my 360, but MS haven't really got many games to showoff after the summer - in fact, after GTAIV and Ninja Gaiden 2 (other than GoW2 ofc).

  • @rich8606: No...busy doing Home...

  • @cheeses: Can't teach us shit until its actually out :)

  • I'm actually glad these won't be coming out just yet, Sony has quite a few exclusives for this year already, if these were release and they were really good they might just be overlooked because of LBP or Home, at least we know that they have some interesting stuff coming in 2010, even if it might change a lot by then.

    @macksed:

    yeah and I'm telling you..They help with Home development and the tools,but they aren't producing the game.The different groups SCEA,SCEE,J help developers with titles.I guess you could explain it like what a military advisor does.MS does the same.

    Neither title is really on my radar anyway. If I was gogint o get either of them it probably be Eight Days anyway. But yeah I'll agree with what Strange Bedfellows says in that there will be plenty of games to keep me busy in the next few years. I'm so glad Sony didn't shot the wad like MS did.

    going to *

  • @cheeses: Thos target renders didn't come true though, between reduced poly count, reduced detail (no seperate strands of hair or skin detail), worse lighting and shadowing, reduced rubble, more jaggy graphics, worse animations, worse textures and a smaller/ more closed off world (less to render at one time). There were tons of things knocked down so no it's not close per say but I guess it was good enough.

    Anyway back to the article, I am actually quite shocked how far back they are holding them. I always knew after the CGI affair that they'd either delay games massively to try and meet what they showed or they'd just under deliver. I'm glad they are trying to meet what they set out but it still won't match it in the end most likely.

  • count me in among the fans of Getaway, at least the first one. I'd like to see the new one. It'll be like, "Oh, I remember that game."

  • Wow. Damn. I was really looking forward to both of those games. Hopefully we'll at least see something new for these games sometime soonish...

  • love the picture made me laugh out loud

  • @Llost: Keyword: Sorta.

    @Luke Plunkett: September 2008, baby! Watch and learn or erm, wait and...then watch or no, learn and um...bye.

  • @cheeses: sorta is a shifty word, to me it means not quite met it and to you it means pretty much met it. I'll argue no more about that though just what I think.

  • I just started playing the first Getaway again yesterday.

    Never played the second one, heard it wasn't as good.

  • Waiting with high anticipation both titles.

    Speed your asses Sony programmers!!!

  • There a quite a few other games doing that too. That Coded Arms PS3 game, a few other PS3 exclusives, and a few 360 exclusives. Heard nothing on them for a few years.

  • getting a funding for a full team took that long... so im guessing its a pretty huge budget, maybe more than 10M$ deal for 2 games.
