Bullet Witch DLC - Anyone Care?

Of all the Xbox 360 games to have their content bolstered by inexpensive downloadable content, it had to be Bullet Witch, the most amazingly average game ever released for the console. Atari has announced the beginnings of a long stream of DLC coming out over the course of the coming weeks, starting with a free White Witch costume, a theme pack, and the new "Dynamite Beauty" mission, which only costs 20 points. Both of these should be available soon, if not now.

Then the next few weeks will see the release of five new missions, five enhanced versions of original missions, and several new costumes, including schoolgirl, secretary, pixie, and mummy. It really is a staggering amount of support for a game that is hardly even worth renting.

First Bullet Witch Downloadable Content On Xbox Live Marketplace

New Costume, Themes and Gameplay Content Available Now, More to Follow

LYON, FRANCE - 28 March 2007 - Atari today announced the first downloadable content for Bullet Witch available now on Xbox Live Marketplace. Launched in February for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, Bullet Witch is published by Atari in partnership with Japanese publisher AQ Interactive Inc.

The first set of new downloadable content includes a free brand new White Witch costume for the game's stunning heroine Alicia and a Bullet Witch Xbox 360 Theme pack. In addition, for 20 points each, players can download one brand new mission "Dynamite Beauty" and two enhanced versions of the "Clad in Streaming Black" mission featuring 'Great Spells' unlocked and a heightened level of difficulty respectively.

Over the coming weeks, more free costumes for Alicia will be available free of charge - Mummy, Schoolgirl, Secretary and Pixie. Additional new missions 'Caterpillar City', 'Endless', 'One Shot Kill' and 'Geist Search and Destroy', plus enhanced editions of the missions 'City of Screams', 'Up in Flames at 10,000ft', 'Down in the Valley', 'The Bound Soul' and 'The End of Chaos', will be available for 20 points each.

Developed by Japan-based Cavia, Bullet Witch is set on a bleak planet earth in the year 2013 with human kind on the brink of extinction and hideous demons creating a tidal wave of destruction and havoc. All hope of mankind's survival rests with Alicia, a beautiful witch blessed with magical skills and a swift trigger finger. Players take control of Alicia on her heroic quest to prevent the decimation of mankind by using her fearsome weaponry and spectacular powers with which she can manipulate natural phenomena in her environment.

  • Did anyone else think they decided to raid Onechanbara's wardrobe upon reading the costumes available? I mean...mummy? Seriously. They're not even trying here.

Let's go nuts here. Give her one of those massive, Victorian hoop dresses.

  • Although I don't have the game, This is what the pricing of downloadable content should cost.

  • I care! I only bought the game because they promised a school girl's outfit!

  • despite how average the game is, i think it has its own charm.

granted, it's not gears of war or lost planet, but it is what is is.

besides, free costumes/theme and a cheap extra mission? i'm there.

  • i hope they track how many people dl this crap and realize no one bought the game.

  • Free costumes and new missions at 20 points each? That's great! I avoided the game after mediocre reviews but I think I'll go out and grab a copy now.

The announcement of a school girl costume has nothing to do with it.

  • @Shikoku88Henro: well, i got the game... and while it may not be the best game, it's cool in its own way.

i just think they had a good idea for a game, the presentation was terrible. they have a cool heroine, with a cool gun, but everything else sucks...

  • " Both of these should be available soon, if not now."

If not now then there is still time to stop them! Quick...someone start a web petition!

  • this game was beyond terrible

  • I would have cared, had I not already achieved the full 1000pts.

    BTW: BulletWitch > Lost Planet

  • I was ready to buy the game until I heard they're charging money for content that's already on the disc. Whatever happened to developers throwing in unlockable content for free rather than charging for it or substituting it with worthless Achievements? I may have to get the PS3 if this shit continues.

  • Poor poor Bullet Witch. They create a game with a strong female heroine whose appeal is not reliant on 'jiggle motion', create some wonderful little bits of gameplay... then stop finishing the game at around 60% complete.

Ah well, at least the end of the boss battle was entertaining. I'm betting ol' Freud would have something to say about that one...

As for the downloadable content, I might actually pick it up with my extra points. I don't intend to buy the game until it drops below the $20 mark, but I rented it this week and have enjoyed speed running through it.

  • Ugh, good cheap content, for crap game.

  • I agree, BulletWitch isn't that bad! 20 MS points = 25 cents though... How annoying! Is it seriously worth their time for a freaking quarter? I don't mind transactions, but that means if I want it I have to go out and buy the points. With the way MS works, I'd have to buy $5 worth of points (minimal transaction) which I won't do for a 25 cent transaction.

    Therefore, no, I don't care.

I care ... 25 cents for a mission and a free costume? Yep, I got them right away!

  • I care. I actually like this game. I think too many people have set their expectations of games too high because of games like Gears of War. I mean, I like lost planet, but it's simply not that great of a game. Rolling makes you invincible- I mean seriously, what?

Don't care much about the costumes but the additional challenge levels sound cool. ^_^

  • Bullet Witch is pretty good. I'll check out this DLC when I buy it. I rented a copy, but I'll purchase it once the prices comes down a bit.

I enjoyed the game for what it is.

Other people just need to bitch about everything.

Its funny though overseas the extra content costs stuff. In Japan its all free. (Although yeah that might be something to get pissed about.) Cept I guess they call it a tiny localization fee for the missions perhaps.

About the costumes on the other hand...

Anyways for the eyecandy its worth it.

  • @synce

Im not sure this games falls under this but will have to see but Im pretty sure the Free white witch free costume was a bigger than 108 K download. I wasnt really paying super close attention but I think it was around 24 Meg. But if you did notice small downloads which one/ones was it. I will download one of the paid ones later its only a quarter and I still have it on rental.

Now what we need now is so DLC for Earth Defense Force 2017.That game so deserves online play and a school girl outfit would be nice too gotta be better than those diaper pants.

@Konchu: I was actually going to mention EDF in this article but it slipped my mind. Mmmm, EDF content. :)

  • Bullet Witch must be Japanese for Pure Crap.

  • @anoon:

Hear hear! Bullet Witch was good fun and is getting roasted with unfair reviews while Lost Planet which was boring as hell and frustrating got ridiculously high scores just because it's pretty.

That said, they're a month late delivering this content and I'm long done with the game. I'm glad to see that Atari understands the concept of "micro"transactions though.

    Everything doesn't always have to be a minimum of 100 points.@ $1.25 isn't micro.

    synce:

Don't think for a second that PS3 isn't going to feature the same crap too. The days of getting unlockables for playing through a game are sadly waning.

  • It is nice that the DLC is finally coming, but I must say I am disappointed Infogrammes took so long to get it out. In Japan the DLC costumes have been up for quite a while, so all that content should have been ready for North America not long after the game launched.

  • @calpis: Totally in agree.

Im just interested on fighting giant enemy brains.

  • @Hater3000: hit the enemy brains weakpoint for massive damage.

  • Fantastic price point. I wish I could download levels of most Xbox Live arcade games this way. 25 cents, that's what an arcade game is supposed to cost!

  • @loc182: No, as many have said, the costumes should've been available at launch as unlockables. Achievements are turning me off...as more and more their turning into replacements for actual rewards.

  • @TRT-X: what does DLC have to do with achievement points?

  • Bullet Witch was fun! Instead of complaining all over the internet about a game you don't like - why not go play one that you DO like, ya fuckin' complainiacs!

  • I dont know what people have against Bullet Witch its an average game. There are worse games for 360 and there have been far worse for previous gens.

  • As I'm a mean bastard, here .. "leaked" pics of the schoolgirl outfit:

    http://www.softimage.jp/user_case/bulletwitch/img/Gator_DL...

    More Making Of images:
    http://www.softimage.jp/user_case/bulletwitch/index.html

  • This game could have been good, if the controls were better and if they had more fights like the ones leading up to "bosses" where you have to take out a bunch of monsters. Still, free content ftw!

  • So what is this: Super Mario Bros. : Bloodrayne :: Bullet Witch : Bomberman: Act Zero?

  • Hate be on the commenting system >.< If I repost twice sorry.

    w00t for free DLC!

::blows the dust off his Bullet Witch case::

  • And by Super Mario Bros. : Bloodrayne I mean the movies.

So SMB The Movie : Uwe Boll's Bloodrayne :: Bullet Wtich : Bomberman Act Zero. Aight?

  • Considering Alicia turned up nude in Playboy I wonder if they'll release that "costume" and how much they could charge for it... I'd bet even at $20 loads of people would pay for it....
