‘Retrogame Roadshow’ Highlights Rare Gaming Collectibles

At the Portland Retro Gaming Expo last weekend, I teamed up with my friends Frank Cifaldi and Steve Lin of the Video Game History Foundation to present the Retrogame Roadshow panel, where audience members could get their collectibles evaluated. What resulted was a fun 45 minutes of chat about the game collecting world, all centered…

My Misadventures In Fallout 76‘s Buggy, Bizarre Beta

Fallout 76’s is hosting its first beta this week, and I streamed my time with it on Kotaku’s Twitch channel. Four hours is a long time to watch someone bumble in a buggy beta, so I’ve assembled my escapes into a short video showing off just how absurd this multiplayer spin-off is. I haven’t sorted…

Troll Characters Are Invading Online Soulcalibur VI Matches

The Soulcalibur franchise has included a special mode that allows players to build their own characters since the release of Soulcalibur III in 2005. Soulcalibur VI is no different, and while most of custom fighters thus far have been pop culture-based orlizardmen with gargantuan dicks, the latest oddity to appear online takes the cake. Last…

Six Amazing Details in Red Dead Redemption 2

The vastness of Red Dead Redemption 2’s world has less to do with the size of its map and more about the zoomed in minute details littered throughout the world. They all add up to something that bugs me out and almost makes me forget that I’m playing a video game. I’ve made a video…

My Quest To Be Gay In Assassin’s Creed Odyssey‘s Ancient Greece

Ever since it was revealed that you could have same sex romances in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, I’ve been chomping at the bit to be gay in ancient Greece. It’s turned out to be harder than I thought. In the fifth grade, my school went whole hog on ancient Greece. In our overstuffed school, we called…

More And More Game Makers Are Talking About Crunch

When you’ve been reporting on a subject for a long time, you can feel when the winds are beginning to shift, and in 2018 it’s started to feel like game studios are actually having serious conversations about crunch. This week alone we have significant examples from two of the biggest publishers around. Crunch, or extended,…

Only One Of These Fortnite Action Figures Is Super Cuddly

Available for preorder today at Thinkgeek, McFarlane Toys’ Fortnite collectible figures capture some of the game’s most iconic skins as huggable seven inch articulated works of art. Okay, one is slightly more huggable than the others. For such a competitive game, one would think I’d be drawn to the rare Black Knight or Skull Trooper…

Red Dead Redemption 2: The Kotaku Review

From tip to tail, Red Dead Redemption 2 is a profound, glorious downer. It is the rare blockbuster video game that seeks to move players not through empowering gameplay and jubilant heroics, but by relentlessly forcing them to confront decay and despair. It has no heroes, only flawed men and women fighting viciously to survive…

Pokémon Go Clone Has You Collecting Catholic Saints

The Vatican has commissioned a mobile game called Follow JC Go, an AR title which is almost identical to Pokémon Go, only you’re out there collecting Saints and “blessed characters from the Bible”. It works exactly the same as Niantic and Nintendo’s blockbuster: you hit the streets and run into things you can capture, only…

Earlier this week, one of the most followed streamers on Twitch, Pokimane, surprised viewers by kicking off her stream sans makeup. On Monday, the Fortnite player, podcaster, and IRL streamer decided she’d walk her fans through what it takes to do her makeup for one of those streams. It ended up touching off a wide…
