It seems that the game world has gone Weighted Companion Cube crazy. Who knew a little grey box with pink hearts on it could cause such a sensation. Portal fans have made Companion Cubes out of everything from cake to ice to plush. Well fear not, you will no longer have to jab your fingers with needles trying to sew your own as Valve is coming out with their own plushie version of the beloved Cube. According to this image found on Steam, the cube will come in regular form for keeping you company at your office or home and "fuzzy dice" form for you car. Now you'll never have to be without your friend wherever you may be.

Sweet! I need this!
Want. Want! Though what I really want is a vinyl toy, with a nice metal weight inside.
Pass...
Is it just me, or do some of the fan-made ones actually look better?
Awesome! lol
Though honestly, it's more round than cubed.
Yeah. Some of the fan-made ones are much better. Not interested.
I'm pretty disappointed.
Too bad i'll buy it anyway.
Using the word "cube" pretty loosely
I have to agree that this could have been done way better considering it's the "official" plush... I don't want anything to do with a weighted companion sphere :(
Was I the only one who felt the companion cube bit was contrived and phony? What was I supposed to feel?
Yeah, it's going to be a gaming icon for generations, but I still don't get the point of it. I didn't feel anything.
And my mom says you can't buy your friends!
I'll show you mom!
And if my friends jump off a bridge, I'll do it too!
I've never played the game, but I'd like to have this sitting in my locker at work. To know, at last, I'm never really alone.
Maybe I'll find an incinerator!
@Huxleyhobbes: I completely agree
its far too "spherical"
If you call that a cube...
@vuhal: I'd rather have something I can mockingly (or not) cuddle as opposed to a perfect cube.
@Edge of Blade: you didn't love the companion cube?
maybe you will enjoy the companion sphere... buy this product and find out.
As much as I like the weighted companion cube, I don't like it enough to have it be the centerpiece of my car.
All they had to do was make it an actual plushie and more cubical so you could put it on your couch or whatever.
And somehow, even with something as totally awesome as a Weighted Companion Cube plushie, the internets find a reason to bitch and moan.
I think a paperweight, metal version would be way, way cooler.
Edge of Blade: Apparently. There's a small but vocal minority that just didn't bond with their cubes during the brief time spent carrying, pushing, and deflecting. Thankfully I'm not in this group, so its plush companion cube time for me!
YAY!
@Dr. Freeman: Blah blah blah, Mr. Freeman...
I wished they could make a lifesized version it would be nice to have as an extra seat in the dorms...
Is that a bulge in your plushie, or are you just happy to see me?
It looks like they used the "smooth" tool on our beloved beveled cube and turned it into a sphere. Bursting with love!
I was forced to actually sign up for an account here just to make this comment...
As soon as these things start selling how many do you suppose will end up being incinerated simply to complete the full weighted companion cube experience.
I want to see pictures.
Yay, a Weighted Companion... Sphere...
No thanks.
From driving distance, they look great in the adjacent car. From cuddle distance, it's so god damn out of proportion for my tastes. The cube is a lie.

Custom made > official. Yes? No?
I think it is just slightly overstuffed.
@Dr. Freeman: Very appropriate first poster...
I think it's about time for Valve created HL content to incorporate portals...maybe as some form of DLC Ep3 for the Orange Box on the 360?
Seriously, the fan-made one looks much better than the Official. I'm guessing they'll overprice it too... by a lot.
i wonder if it's big enough to support my back when I'm playing video games.
@qsceszwsxasd:
Yeah, it's looks a lot better (not overstuffed)
Imagine how bizzare this all of this "companion cube" obsession looks to me, considering I *still* haven't had a chance to play Portal (although I want to *so* badly).
thats awesome
It needs to be a tad less round. I'm still buying it, but not for my car... I always thought things hanging there were tacky.
@Edge of Blade:
It's a joke. Everyone knows the joke, yet continue to pretend that it had the largest impact of any fictional character ever. Why? Because it's funny.
yay XD I would totally get it
ew, that looks like it belong in an incinerator. Not my desk.
This is a triumph. I'm making a note here. HUGE SUCCESS.
Too many memories of the Challenge Mode Weighted 'Companion' Sphere.
Ugh.
It was only a matter of time. Good choice on their part imo.
@qsceszwsxasd: My point exactly. Yes to this.
@Mainman: If you're saying I got my name wrong by using Doctor, you're mistaken. I'm well aware that the G-Man calls Gordon Mr. Freeman, but if you'd pay attention, every other character calls him Dr. Freeman. If that's not what you were getting at, then I apologize for being a douchebag.
Looks like I need to play this game to see what all the commotion is about.
@Umandsf:
Yeah, you definitely should.
@umandsf
Yeah, you really need to play this game if you havent.
@Huxleyhobbes: The fan-made ones weren't constructed in a way that lends to mass production.
Awesome!
Don't care for the design of it, but I'll take what I can get.
So... Valve... how about a Companion Cube endtable for living rooms?
@Pumpernickel: Valve should really talk to those people then and see what can be done about creating a similar cube that IS capable of mass production. Becuase while I desperately wanted one of these before I actually saw it, now I don't want one at all.
That other custom made one was better.
Oh my god. Must. Have.
I think its pretty cool, although i havent seen the custom ones yet.
Just give me a price point and I'm ready to rock
You know I was scrolling down and the top part looked like jubblies...
@Atheist Jew: Agreed.
