Barely a year old, the Nintendo Switch just got a 5.0 firmware update (the four-year-old PS4 is up to 5.5). No huge changes. More ways to add friends, new profile pictures and enhancements to parental controls. Still no cloud save support (nor the ability to back-up saves on a computer, something the 3DS and Wii…

Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire has been delayed until May 8. Originally due out April 3 on PC, Mac, and Linux, Obsidian said it’s taking a few more weeks to polish the game and incorporate feedback from the beta. Deadfire’s supposed to be much bigger than the (brilliant) first game, so what’s another month?

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds latest update is live, granting players the ability to finally laugh at each other with in-game emotes. You’ll be able to rage, surrender, and clap like a proper troll. The update also adds a friends list to the game.

Mount Shinmoedake, a volcano in Japan’s Kagoshima Prefecture, has been shooting smoke and volcano ash into the air in eruptions that could go on for months. One snapshot of the billowing smoke is reminding folks, myself included, of a cat. Eruptions have not reached the point of evacuation. Time reports that authorities are warning people…

Fortnite Streamer Goes For Glory, Faceplants, Wins Anyway

There’s a fine line between dedication and madness. Typically, people only decide which side of it you’re on after the fact, depending on whether you succeeded or ate shit. Popular streamer Shroud managed to do both. Shroud, an immensely skilled ex-CSGO pro who’s now dipping his PUBG-calloused toes into Fortnite’s waters, recently teamed up with…

Oregon’s New Tourism Ad Is Basically A Studio Ghibli Movie

Amazing. Until this point, the only things tempting me to Oregon were seeing a Timbers game live, baking something British with Kirk Hamilton and the fact it’s the name of one of the best Clutch songs That was before I knew the state was actually a Miyazaki fever dream. There’s a whole website of this…

Hate Being Assassinated In EVE Online? Try The Newest Ship

Every fleet in EVE Online is only as good as the players leading it. But unlike real-life generals, the Fleet Commanders in EVE can’t sit safely on the sidelines giving orders; they’ve got to sit right in the middle of battle like everyone else. As you might imagine, this makes them primary targets. But a…

It’s Time To Stop Acting Like Nobody Watches Anime

Despite the genre’s overwhelming popularity, people act as if anime is still a niche interest. When celebrities like Kim Kardashian or Michael B. Jordan say that they’re fans, or Britney Spears posts pictures of her son’s Dragon Ball Z fanart on Instagram, fellow anime-enjoyers are shocked. Anime has actually been mainstream for a couple of…

Microsoft Says Sony Is Holding Back Fortnite Cross-Play

Fortnite: Battle Royale is the latest video game to have cross-platform play among some devices but just can’t link PlayStation and Xbox players. Funny how that keeps happening. Last week we learned that Fornite Battle Royale would be coming to mobile with cross-play between PS4, PC, Android, and iOS. Then, over the weekend in a…

Vermintide II Is The Best Four-Player Co-op Since Left 4 Dead

Despite having played literally thousands of video games in my life, I had not played Warhammer: Vermintide, so I was unprepared for how sweet its sequel is. In a way, my lack of preparation is appropriate to the theme of Warhammer: Vermintide II, in which a rodentine horde of rat men called the Skaven pop…

Monster Hunter: World’s Bonus Gear Is Cool But Could Use Some Tweaks

If you ever wanted to watch Street Fighter’s Ryu shoryuken a dinosaur or run around with a wibbly, wobbly snake hat, Monster Hunter: World’s bonus quests can make your dreams come true. But there’s a catch. Random level requirements and lackluster stats make the gear tricky to get and tougher to use. Monster Hunter: World…
