Another Year, Another Expensive Car Based On a Video Game

Welcome to 2011. Where not only are video game franchises annualised, but expensive, real cars bearing their branding are as well. The Call of Duty Jeep Wrangler, which was released last year in honour of Call of Duty: Black Ops, will be re-released this year, only now with Modern Warfare 3 branding all over it…

The World’s Best Half-Life 2 Movie Now Has a Sequel

Escape From City 17, a 2009 short flick from The Purchase Brothers, was and still is the best piece of fan-made Half-Life cinema we’ve ever seen. Over two years later, it finally has a follow-up. Escape From City 17 – Part Two has the same top-shelf special effects (and reportedly the same shoestring budget of…

Celebrate Team Fortress 2‘s Quinceañera, Get a Hat

Because of its popularity, many think Team Fortress 2 sprang to life fully formed without precedent, like Athena from the forehead of Zeus. Or Leonard Part VI. It in fact is a series, one that is now 15 years old. So Valve is giving out free stuff, and as you might imagine, that includes a…

Hey, There’s a WICO Command Control Joystick in This Picture

Jo Garcia, Playboy’s noted gamer girl, may star in this wallpaper for The Bunny, but I’m looking at it for the articles in the background, where one of the few non-repeated, non-‘shopped items is the venerable, vaguely phallic WICO Command Control. It’s laying on its side, north by northwest of her right foot, underneath the…

Surprise: they liked it! Much like our own Brian Crecente, who had a chance to play…

Trying Not to Swoon on My First Date With NBA 2K12

Basketball is the sport that always unmasks me as a panicky klutz, whether that is in a video game or in real life. I don’t see things very well, don’t have great anticipation, and overreact to most everything. On defense, it takes nothing to get me in the air, although such a statement implies there…

DOTA 2

DOTA – I think that game critics should be getting preview code of DOTA 2 in the not too distant future. For now I’ll have to make do with this t-shirt and wristbands from the game’s Gamescom outing. This is Why Some People Call El Shaddai a Visual Masterpiece In a little over five minutes,…

17-year-old Bobby Lee Huffman of Hickory, North Carolina, called the police to his home on Monday after he discovered his PlayStation 3, controllers, and games had apparently been stolen. Then Bobby Lee did something incredibly stupid. Officers responded to the Huffman residence on Monday, where Bobby Lee showed them where the alleged criminals had torn…

I Was Only One Bloody Ground Slam Away From Loving Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine

Proof positive that pre-release demos can make or break a game, my interest level in Relic Entertainment’s Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine went from zero to must-buy within 30 minutes of try-before-you-buy gameplay. As far as Games Workshop’s most popular franchises go, I’ve always been more on the Warhammer Fantasy Battles side of things. One would…

Thirteen Easy Steps For Kicking Ass in Age of Empires Online

Age of Empires Online is a fantastically fun strategy game. I’ve been playing it off and on since before its release with my son who is entirely new to not only the series, but the genre. I figure he’s likely not the only inexperienced gamer drawn to this flashy, new (sorta free) real-time strategy game…
