The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is full of the usual intended goofiness the series has always had, but sometimes it was moments of unintentional goofiness that really elevated the original Nintendo 64 game. With the remake out on Switch 2 now, it would have been easy for Nintendo to scrub some of that stuff out, but as some players have found, some of the funnier opportunities for player-driven silliness are still included in the game, including the fact that the Iron Boots can ruin serious cutscenes.

The Iron Boots are a piece of equipment Link can wear to walk under the surface of water, allowing him to reach places he wouldn’t be able to swim to. They’re often paired with the Zora Tunic, which allows Link to breathe indefinitely, and these two items together are crucial for places like the Water Temple which has Link going in and out of fully submerged areas. However, because these Iron Boots weigh Link down, they also let out clanking sounds as he tries to walk with them. Still, the game lets you put them on anywhere you want, and if you don them when Link has to walk across an area for a serious moment, you’re gonna hear him coming.

As players are discovering, this quirk is still in the remake, and somehow, the boots are even louder coming through the Switch 2’s speakers.

Though fans are discovering the remake has sanded away some of the original’s rough edges, and taken out some exploits that fans have taken advantage of for nearly 30 years, it’s nice to see that not everything has been completely polished this time around.
