Behind The Scenes Filming A Mortal Kombat Game In 1995
Series co-creator Ed Boon shared a very cool video earlier today, showing some behind the scenes action from Mortal Kombat 3’s motion capture filming. Bit and pieces of this kind of stuff tend to pop up every now and again (like the MK1 photos we posted in 2014), but this is particularly great, because it…

UncategorizedSpider-Man’s Text Message Scene Is Perfect
There are a lot of good cutscenes in the PS4’s new Spider-Man game. My favorite one was all about a text message conversation. Around halfway through the main story, there’s an act break. Spider-Man has caught Mister Negative, a.k.a. Martin Li, and in the process reconnected with his sort-of-ex-girlfriend Mary Jane Watson. In this Spider-Man…

This Life Sim Fascinated (And Terrified) Me When I Was 13
I was probably about 7 when I first realized there was some weird, fleshy mystery going on between my legs. At that age, you’re discovering a lot about yourself: how far you can run, how many Spice Girls lyrics you can learn in one evening, whether or not you can fit an entire roll of…

UncategorizedAssassin’s Creed Odyssey Offers A Hell Of A View
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey takes the series to its earliest setting ever, way back to ancient Greece during the Peloponnesian War. Heather and I have dug into the game for the past two weeks, and the first thing that stood out to both of us was how colorful the world looks and how varied the scenery…

The New Transformers Trading Card Game Is Kind Of Magical
Giant transforming robots deserve giant trading cards, and they get them in the new Transformers Trading Card Game. Hasbro tapped Wizards of the Coast to give the Autobots and Decepticons a new way to battle, and it’s slightly more than meets the eye. It’s kind of a slow rollout for the Transformers Trading Card Game.…

Video Game About Dating Supreme Court Justices Has A Different Ring To It These Days
The developers making Supreme Courtship always had a tricky needle to thread. To educate players about American government they would let them date Supreme Court Justices. It was meant to be upbeat and a little silly. It’s become a thornier project over the last several weeks thanks to Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination, and the investigation of…

Super Mario Party comes out on Friday. It’s the series’ debut on Switch and the first main entry since 2015’s ill-fated Mario Party 10 on Wii U. The Closest Thing To A New Zelda Dungeon Is… Nintendo Labo?
The Nintendo Labo Vehicle kit is far from a new Zelda game, but while building it recently, I had flashbacks to some of my favorite parts of some of the best Zelda adventures. I can’t stop telling people this. I hope not everyone thinks I’ve lost my mind. Like the first two Labo kits released…

UncategorizedOverwatch‘s Group-Finder Is Now Mean Girls For Competitive Play
In July, Overwatch got a group-finder, and now meeting teammates for the game’s competitive mode often feels less like teaming up with a bunch of random gamers on the internet and more like trying to sit at the popular kids’ high school lunch table. The group finder is meant to help players compose teams. In…

UncategorizedArena’s Open Beta Is A Good Way To Play Magic: The Gathering, But It Has Some Pitfalls
Magic: The Gathering Arena is the venerable card game’s new entry into the digital space, and the free-to-play game is finally in open beta on PC after several months of closed beta. I’ve been playing it for those several months. I have some opinions. If you aren’t aware of Magic: The Gathering, it is a…
