CultureHow’s It Going?: Neighbors Edition
It’s Monday! Welcome to another week, and welcome back to our daily open thread. Last week I was sitting on my fire escape, and I watched a dude in full knockoff Army regalia and a bright pink gas mask buy two trash bags full of horrifying, sort of zombified baby dolls from an older woman…

CultureThe Moment I Fell In Love With Aerith In The Final Fantasy VII Remake
In the original Final Fantasy VII, Aerith and Cloud’s escape from Shinra across the rooftops of the Sector 5 slums is a minute-long sequence with a few lines of dialogue and a bit of hopping. The Final Fantasy VII Remake turns that fleeting moment into so much more. As Jason Schreier says in his excellent…

CultureThe Week In Games: Cloud And His Big Sword
After years of fans waiting, being teased, seeing trailers and more waiting, Final Fantasy VII Remake is coming out later this week. I’ve never played FFVII, so I don’t have a huge emotional connection to this remake’s release. But I get a lot of folks are very excited to finally get this first part of…

ReviewsFinal Fantasy VII Remake: The Kotaku Review
A remake is, by nature, an egotistical exercise. Choosing to revise and re-release an old work of art is looking back at it and saying, “You know what? I could do this better.” Sometimes that turns out to be true. Sometimes it turns out to be horribly false. And sometimes, a release comes out that…

CultureCosplay7 Years Improving Some League Of Legends Cosplay
When a cosplayer spends weeks or even months on an outfit, it’s not always so they can wear it once then bin it. A lot of the time a costume can be kept for years after its first wearing, as it’s added to and improved upon. As an example of that, here’s cosplayer Alexandre, who…

UncategorizedLink To The Past’s Hyrule Recreated In Animal Crossing
That is a lot of terraforming. VaynMaanen has taken their regular Animal Crossing island of Forsena and completely transformed it into the Link to the Past version of Zelda’s Hyrule, from towns to waterfalls to mountains. That is, uh, a lot of work, but it also looks fantastic, not just as a homage, but just…
