Stop whatever you are doing and help the internet answer this question about Knack.

ResetEra user Lant_War posted the question “Is Knack naked?” earlier today and asked others to vote yes or no. As of this writing nearly 200 folks have voted and the vast majority (94%) believe that Knack, the lovable star of the PS4 launch game Knack, is in fact naked.

Or, as user mnz suggested, “Knacked.

While I agree that Knack is probably nude, you could make the argument that all the red spikes on his body are some form of clothing. Or at the very least is some kind of hair that is hiding some of his features. Can you be naked and covered in hair? Is Cousin Itt naked? Or do you define naked as being simply without clothing?

ResetEra user BevelledEdge also asks a very important follow-up question: Can robots even be naked? Maybe flesh-covered androids, like in the Blade Runner franchise, but can Knack ever TRULY be naked?

Please, don’t think about this too much. He is clearly naked. Right?

Or maybe...

First you have to consider if the robot is naked simply for having no cloths, or if it can only be naked when it’s electronics are exposed to the environment. I think as a general rule we can agree that all robots are technically naked if they are not wearing clothes or exterior coverings to their underlying mechanics, electronics, or mobility platforms. Especially if that lack of covering left them vulnerable to damage from dust and liquids. Beyond that I find it to be a matter of semantics and individual opinion if a robot can even be subject to the notion of nudity, particularly if it has no need of clothing for protection or social acceptance.

In Knack’s case, I believe only he can decide for himself if he is naked. He’s not the kind of entity that is suitable to wear clothing in the first place. Does he consider having extra parts/mass equivalent to being clothed? Does he consider his minimal form to be clothing to his sentient mind as opposed to just being a sentience stuck on a module without a body or limbs?
