Game Off: CA. Lawmakers Pass Sales Bill

    Governator.jpg

Game Politics reports that the California Assembly passed a bill which "calls for ending the sale and rental of violent video games that depict serious injury to human beings in a manner that is especially heinous, atrocious or cruel, to persons under 18 years of age." Speaker pro Tem Yee had this to offer:

Unlike movies where you passively watch violence, in a video game, you are the active participant and making decisions on who to stab, maim, burn or kill. As a result, these games serve as learning tools that have a dramatic impact on our children.

Those are pretty sweeping statements. I don't think violent tendencies are a learned behavior when video games are pegged as the teacher. The PlayStation isn't the classroom for social behavior. I'd be a stone cold killa if that was true.

Speaking of which, the bill's next stop is on the desk of the Terminator himself, Gov. Schwarzenegger.
