The Spore Launch Date Annoucement Trailer [Spore.Com - Thanks Deadeyereborn!]

I suppose now you're gonna tell me Duke Nukem: Forever will launch this year?
Just like Brawl was supposed to launch in December... I've lost faith in launch dates.
Oh Spore. Gods gift to man.
Fantastic... another release date.
7 months.... just enough time to prepare myself for it's next delay.
Never really understood why this took so long to create in the first place. Most of the video they ran looked practically golden.
I. Cant. Wait. Spore is the kind of game that I have wanted for a very long time. Even though it will most likely be delayed I dont care as long as some sort of evidence it exists... exists.
As far as I can tell that's the release date for PC, Mac, DS, and mobile versions of it. Looks like all the other potential console versions (PS3, PSP, Wii, 360) will be some time after that. Q1 2009? Q3 2015?
I'm curious to see what the game looks like on the DS, and if all the features are as robust, aside from the graphics of course.
If only I was a Spore newsletter subscriber I could be the first to get new Spore information, screenshots, videos, and other cool features.
Oh well.. I guess I'll just have to wait the extra six minutes for it all to be posted on Kotaku.
@Deadeyereborn: Oh and for Fahey. see relentlessly IMing Kotaku writers can get you far in life.
Woot, just a couple days after my birthday.
Wow, that's really far away. I thought they had said Q1 of this year?
@underscore: Was there a DS version announced? I know the Wii version was. I don't think I would want to play it on my PS3 or 360. Anyway, a DS version would be cool! :D
Oh, and I forgot to mention.. September 7th!? That's on or near some future poster's birthday!
No fair, I'll be back in college around that time. QQ
In other news, Duke Nukem Forever is to be released this year, right after hell freezes over in August.
@fyre:
@elementary:
Too late.
@drweazel: I think you're confusing the DS version with a Wii version. If I remember correctly, Will Wright only expressed interest in the Wii.
i wish they hadn't used their 'hype card' yet because i really don't care about spore at the moment lol.
That video was obnoxiously unnecessary
*zzzzzzz*...oh, sorry. I had been asleep because I forgot caring about this game 2 years ago.
Damn you Deadeyereborn! I sent this tip in also! (although i didn't forward the newsletter which was probably dumb)
@notakujustraku: ha ha my internet prowess has defeated you. You are a worthy adversary but you have been defeated.
Nah I am just kidding the only reason I got it in is cause I whinned a ton to Fahey he called me a dork too.
Will spore allow us to import our Sim Copter maps?
@Eagle Epsilon [ZTF]: That was your gamer naivety getting the better of you. Game demo videos for projects that are heavily in development are usually just scripted together bits of features that will eventually work, but basically only work for one specific case. Like, they build a specific map, and water textures and sunlight model for ONE level, finish off a couple AI's, and that's maybe a 5% finished features, or it may contain 0% working code, but polished to look good for a demo. And, if you're working with 0% code, you may not even know *how* you're going to make it work yet.
Spore is full of complex simulators, so its perfect for fudging like this.
Take a game like simcity, where they have reactive pollution, citizen demands for police, traffic problems, etc. etc. You can 'simulate' all these in-game effects for a demo without having ANY of them working within the game.
If they were demo'ing an FPS engine, its pretty much you get what you see, whether there's gameplay or not yet (like ID's RAGE project), but when you're demo'ing gameplay, you can fudge endlessly.
This is actually encouraging because it's the first actual release date EA's given. I think we owe them the benefit of the doubt on this as they haven't officially delayed Spore yet. Their only sin was hyping the game way too early and then having a media blackout.
@WallaJoy- Snorlax?: No there's definitely (supposedly) a DS version in the works.
ooh, a release date confirmed? On my Birthday no less!!
i now have something to make the parents buy for me this year!
I will give it 3 months and then they will announce a delay for Q1 2009.
@Deadeyereborn: oh, it wouldn't have been worth it to me, I'd never want to be called a dork by Kotaku staff
The Cubs winning the Pennant is more likely than this date getting met.
Rabble rabble delays rabble...! More importantly, do people still think so highly of this game?
I am going to wait the fucking hell outta this game!
The big question is this; Will anyone actually care anymore?
Finally! Really looking forward to this one.
Noo, I was still hoping for a confirmed April launch...sadly. At least we finally have ANOTHER confirmed launch date.
@dowingba: I actually meant that there IS a DS version is development, and the Wii port he heard of didn't exist. Of course, I am probably wrong.
Launch dates smaunch dates. I'll beleive it when I see the box on the shelf. And not one of those empty boxes they use at Gamestop either.
@YoppaDo:
Another confirmed date? Spore never had a confirmed date from the publisher.
Well, now I know what I'm getting for my birthday.
Is this still coming out for Wii, or do I needa save up 3000$ and buy an iMac?
I have no idea what Maxis is doing with their targets platforms.
PC/OSX/DS/Mobile Phones. What about the systems that actually make money for developers?
If its on DS, why not Wii?
If its on PC, why not on 360?
If its on OSX, why not on PS3?
Does it need mouse-like control THAT much that they're willing to sacrifice boatloads of cash? The game has been in development for EIGHT YEARS. There's basically no way that they will be profitable on the platforms they mentioned.
If Will Wright says it then it must be true, my life for Will Wright!
They better stick with this date. For these last couple of months, I had assumed that it would come out in 2009. Now it looks like it'll become a brithday present for my girlfriend(which also means a present for me as well ^_^.)
Come on duke! you gotta get released first!
HEY ITS ON MY BIRTHDAY!!!!
@elementary: QUITE SO!
the day before my b-day!
If there is a god, this will happen.
About damn time, but right after schools get back into session?
Take as long as you want to make this great. I want this like a fat kid wants pie but make it awesome please.
So the world's going to end sometime between now and Sept. 7th? Oh, it just takes all the fun out life if you know when everything is gonna come to a screeching halt.
I don't understand why everyone compares Spore to jokes like DN Forever. Spore was only announced three years ago, and pretty much the only info we've gotten since then has been a small trickle of viral stuff, as befitting a game in development. This trailer presumably marks the start of the proper marketing. *Now* is the time to start getting excited.
Holy crap, first Duke Nukem Forever gets a slightly firmer release date, and now Spore? What's going on here?
How many people here have birthdays on September 7th? o.O
