These two whales are just a (relatively) tiny part of LetsLente’s huge, utterly beautiful “Oriental Minecraft Dreamscape.” Lente posted the finished project to Reddit’s r/minecraft a bit over a year after sharing a WIP screenshot depicting a single, unfinished whale. Dayshot is an image-based feature that runs every morning, showcasing some of the prettiest, funniest…

According to Masahiro Sakurai, the rumor that Smash Bros. for the Wii U/3DS is launching in Spring 2014 is not true. Sakurai did confirm that the game would hit sometime in 2014, though.

The folks behind Natural Selection are working on an open-world underwater building game. Subnautica will “combine elements of role playing, sandbox, exploration and cinematic games,” according to its newly-opened website-slash-blog

Bungie Artist Builds His Own Destiny Gun

Sloan Hood is an artist at Bungie. He’s also an avid cosplayer. The two activities met last month when he dressed up as a class from the studio’s upcoming space shooter Destiny, and while the outfit is impressive, it’s the gun that’s got my attention. Call it “cheating” if you must, but since he’s one…

If Assassin’s Creed IV Was A Disney Cartoon…

Finish that sentence however you want, though I’d recommend “…I would watch the crap out of it”. Not sure the subject matter would carry over that well for a kid’s movie, but hey, maybe Thatch’s burning beard and everyone’s wanton murder can be turned into a jolly sea shanty. Playing Battlefield 4 Inside An Armored LAN Party

Yes, this is a cheap marketing stunt. But it’s one I want to own. Or at least borrow for the weekend. EA’s Australian outpost and Origin – the PC manufacturers, not the EA online store – have built the “Battlefield 4 and Origin PC Armoured Division Tank”, a clumsy name for what’s essentially a converted…

Attack On Titan “Movie” Is Redefining Cosplay As We Know It

There is cosplay, and then there is…well, we might need a word that goes beyond cosplay for this. This crew of Japanese Attack on Titan fans, of the Through The Night crew, laugh at the notion of simply dressing up as the show’s characters and posing. They’ve taken to the woods and gone all out,…

The Next Rainbow Six Game “Wasn’t Working”, So It’s Been Remade

In case you couldn’t tell between the departuresand delays, Ubisoft’s next Rainbow Six game has been in the development doghouse for years now. Something Ubisoft is only just getting around to publicly acknowledging. During an interview with IGN, Ubisoft’s Laurent Detoc has admitted that the game as first planned “wasn’t working”, and that the team…

Let’s See What’s Inside A Steam Machine (And How You Swap Stuff Out)

Valve’s Steam Machinemay have its eyes on your living room, but it’s not a console. It’s still a PC at heart, so if you’re curious how easy it’s going to be to open one up and swap out/upgrade parts, take a look at this. Corey Nelson is one of the lucky 300 to be testing…

PlayStation U.S. Boss Says He Gave Up His PS4 So Someone Could Buy One

When PlayStation’s U.S. chief says Sony isn’t rigging an artificial PS4 shortage, I give him the benefit of the doubt. When he says 12,000 PS4s sold out in half an hour on Amazon, that’s not an incredible thing to say. When he says he has no PS4 yet, telling the company to sell it instead,…

Four Have Reached Level 100 on PlayStation Network

Hakoom, one of the more prolific and visible trophy hunters in the PlayStation Network, just broke through to level 100—a rank that requires a user to win some 30,000 trophies. Three others have also breached the 99 barrier, thought to be the limit when PSN instituted trophy support back in mid-2008. Hakoom gets the publicity…

Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and Marvel vs. Capcom 2 are being removed from Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network stores—both their digital versions and their DLC. Tuesday is the last day PSN subscribers in North America can get DLC for the game; Thursday is the last day in Europe. Dec. 26 is the deadline,…

Here’s Stan Bush Rebooting His Iconic Transformers Anthem, ‘The Touch’

Fahey wasn’t too fond of the remixed “The Touch” thatplayed during the credits for Transformers: Fall of Cybertron last year, the credits only offered an excerpt. Today, Stan Bush released the entire thing. Does the additional context make it better? I’m kinda still with Fahey on this. Bush’s title track from the 1986 film is…

Kotaku ‘Shop Contest: The Ballad of Greychalk

Not even a day after The Daily Show sent ace correspondent “Greychalk,” a “dwarf paladin” (which is possible!) to report on American spies’ monitoring of World of Warcraft, there were 18 Greychalks created in the game, most of them dwarven paladins. There are 46 now. This sounds topical enough to me to rate a ‘Shop…

Steam Machine Beta User Trying to Find All 300 of His Lucky Brethren

Just 300 people in the U.S. were selected to participate in the Steam Machines beta, which shipped boxes to folks beginning on Friday. They know which number they are in the beta by looking at the row of 300 ventilation holes on the top of the unit and finding the position of the single countersunk…

Valve’s Steam Machine Delivered To Homes, Gets Unboxed

As promised, the lucky beta testers of Valve’s own first-party Steam Machines are starting to get their consoles…computers…whatever. Here are a couple of unboxings, showing off not only what they get in the box, but also a pretty snazzy shipping case. I was expecting machines shipped in foam and including some notes and basic manuals…

Kotaku ‘Shop Contest: A Picture Worth $735: The Winners

Our subject this week was the guy who bought a picture of an Xbox One off eBay for $735, and it will close out 2013 as one of the year’s most-entered ‘Shop Contests. I waived the usual 20-finalist limit just to get all the good ones in—and there are 37, including overall No. 1 Docherty…
