Borderlands Rap Album Is… Not Half-Bad, Actually

Yes, somebody made a rap album entirely about loot-tacular shooter Borderlands. Surprisingly, it’s not the worst thing ever. It’s kinda good, actually. I know, right? The group’s name is RPG-Unit (hah), and they’ve put together a six-song Borderlands-themed EP called Rock, Paper, Genocide. You can listen to it for free on Soundcloud. I think… I…

Reminder: There’s Going To Be a Mad Max Game, Too

One of the biggest hits at this year’s Comic-Con International was the fresh look at Mad Max: Fury Road, the new take on George Miller’s classic dystopian opus. With all the buzz around the new trailer, it’s a good time to remind ourselves that there’s going to be a game set in the same grungy…

Call Of Duty Bummer: They Opted Not To Have Teleportation Grenades

The new Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, futuristic-looking as it is, will not have teleportation grenades. So it was reported in a VentureBeat profileof CoD:AW studio Sledgehammer Games. Too unrealistic. Here’s VentureBeat talking to Sledgehammer’s Michael Condrey about where they draw the line between CoD-suitable and CoD-nope: Condrey said that the team also had to…

A reader sent this Reddit thread my way on Twitter. Looks like it struck a nerve with some gamers. I’m not sure how well the implicit criticism applies to Kotaku since we disclose this info in the review boxes, but it is something to think about as more non-gaming outlets begin to cover/criticize games. Judging…

Metroid‘s Brightest Samus Suit, Now A Glowing 20-Inch Masterpiece

Acquiring the glowing, bone-colored Light Suit was the coolest moment in Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, and one that deserves to be commemorated by a 20-inch tall, $365 glowing statue from First 4 Figures. Feels like I’ve been waiting forever for more Metroid from First 4 Figures, and Light Suit Samus was definitely worth that wait.…

I’d Forgotten How Bad The Animated TMNT Movie Was

With Leonardo off on a character-building mission in another country, the remaining turtles are forced to get day jobs. Meanwhile, April O’Neil has made the jump from journalist to ninja archaeologist for hire. Cinema Sins has its hands full with this one. I purchased 2007’s TMNT on Blu-ray, motivated only by blind nostalgia, and look…

Someone’s Figured Out Where One Million Internet Cats Live

This goes without saying, but people love posting pictures of their cats online. They love it so much, in fact, that they’re often willing to forego little things like “privacy” and “self-respect” in favor of bringing their furry friends to the widest possible audience. A new data-driven project throws the gratuity of all this feline-flaunting…

Don’t Miss Trails in the Sky On PC Today

Here is your reminder that The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky is out today on PC, it’s $20, and it’s really, really worth your time. Granted, I have a bit of a soft spot for deep, twisty role-playing games with hundreds of thousands of words and treasure chests that talk. If you prefer…

New pre-rendered Assassin’s Creed Unity trailer shows our hero, the assassin Arno, rescuing a woman who seems to be wearing a Templar cross (the same lady we initially thought was an assassin. Whoops!). The game’s designers hinted at the end of this making-of video that Unity will address the schism between Assassins and Templars and…

Modern Combat 5 Does Nothing New, But It Does Old Really Well

If you’re craving innovation, the latest game in a series created as Gameloft’s answer to Call of Duty is the wrong place to look, but its lack of ambition doesn’t preclude Modern Combat 5: Blackout from being one of the best mobile first-person shooters going. If Activision weren’t so protective of their property and Metal…
