Following in the footsteps of other fighting game devs, SNK recently announced an official competition for both Samurai Shodown and King of Fighters XIV. The SNK World Championship is scheduled for March 2020, and the entire shebang will feature a prize pool of over 10 million yen, or around $95,000.

SNK revealed a timeline for the first season of paid Samurai Shodown content at Evo 2019. Rimururu is coming in August, Basara in October, Kazuki Kazama in November, and Wan-Fu in December. As an added bonus, Shizumaru Hisame will be available for free in September. A second season is also planned for 2020.

At a recent SNK investors event in South Korea, exec Ge Zhihui reportedly said that a Neo-Geo 2 and Neo-Geo 3 are in the planning stage. Details are scant, but these are apparently not Neo-Geo Mini successors. Also announced was a new Metal Slug in development for home consoles.

SNK’s reboot of weapons-based fighting series Samurai Shodown, AKA Samurai Spirits, arrives on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in June, with a Switch version coming later this year and a PC port at a later date. The game will be playable at PAX East this weekend. Embrace death, everybody!

SNK announced The King of Fighters XV for a 2020 release at a recent press conference in South Korea. There are currently no other details about the game. [Thanks, Sang!]
