The live-action Legend of Zelda movie is still just under a year away, but it looks like Nintendo is putting the pieces in place for it to start promoting the film on multiple fronts, including new toys, as the company has entered a licensing deal with Hasbro.
The toy manufacturer will be producing new toys of Link, Zelda, and other characters in Hyrule starting in 2027 as part of a “multi-year” agreement with the House of Mario. Fans won’t have to wait too long to see a preview of what to expect, as Hasbro will be revealing three six-inch figures at San Diego Comic Con on July 23. The announcement doesn’t specify which characters will be featured, nor what era of the Zelda series they might resemble. They could look similar to the movie versions of Link and Zelda portrayed by Benjamin Evan Ainsworth and Bo Bragason, or they may be based on the characters’ game appearances.
“For decades, The Legend of Zelda franchise has captivated fans through its deep lore, unforgettable characters and enduring sense of discovery,” said Hasbro Toys and Board Games President Billy Lagor. “By combining Nintendo’s iconic storytelling with Hasbro’s leadership in action and role-play, we’re delivering toys that invite fans to play, explore and forge their own epic adventures.”
Whatever the figures end up looking like, it’s clear Nintendo wants to capitalize on the film’s release next year by making Zelda characters a mainstay of your kid’s favorite toy aisle if the Legend of Zelda movie takes off like the Mario movies have. If the movie doesn’t go over as well, at least Zelda fans might reap the benefits for a bit with new collectibles?
The Legend of Zelda is coming to theaters on April 30, 2027.
