This morning, we went from having seen a single image of the Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake to having seen at least snippets of most major moments in the game. That’s thanks to the Zelda Direct, which included an extended section of early gameplay and a proper trailer containing loads more.
Whatever your thoughts are on the visual style, it’s nonetheless fascinating to see an old game remade with new technology, particularly given the leaps that have been made since Ocarina first came out. I’ve gone through and pulled 25 moments from the gameplay and trailer today in order to better compare them with their equivalent moments in the original, so we can see how far things have come.
(Some of these are admittedly not 1:1, but I tried to get close.)
Kind of a loss that he can see over the counter properly now.
It’s funny, in the original Ocarina of Time there’s no big, expansive view of Hyrule Field like there is in the remake. They just had to do a mini “Breath of the Wild” moment I guess!
There isn’t really a good way to compare the Castle Towns, as with the new free camera in the remake you can get the town from any angle and we didn’t see the actual original angle in this gameplay segment.
The inside of Jabu-Jabu is going to be a nightmare, huh.
I’m so happy that they kept the Great Fairy close to her original look!
This hallway was such a flex back then. Less so now, but admittedly still cool.
Link can swim now!
The Ocarina of Time remake is out on November 5, 2026, for Nintendo Switch 2.
