New Lost Odyssey Trailer

Here's the new Lost Odyssey clip Ash was talking about, which was shown at Microsoft's pre-TGS presser earlier today. Some of it's recycled from the first one, but most of it's new. Still got no idea how it plays, but at least it looks nice.

  • I wonder if any 360 games will ever pin the "natural lighting" that the best looking PS3 games seem to achieve?

    Looking damn fine, though!

  • What the hell? This isn't new! I've had this on my 360 since E3 2007!

  • Looks great!
Luke gameplay was already shown at E3 2006.
    It's very basic, nothing new.

  • Doesn't look too bad. Story so far seems a bit interesting. A little bit of immortality mixed with some themes of sacrifice will do nicely as an entree.

  • Looks fantastic!

Now MS, fix that bloody RRsOD problem and I'll happily buy a 360 to play this.

  • Dear God, please have the japanese voice track on the disc! I can't stand this dub. At least in Japanese I can't understand it enough to hate it.

  • @Gumbydunzeeto:
If you're going to wait until this game is out in the states (what, February of 08?) chances are the Falcon chip'll be out by then and running cooler alongside an additional heatsink to the old crapped out 360s. At that point I think you could reasonably expect no RROD so long as you aren't running it constantly while it sits next to your oven.

Im pretty certian this is going to be the standard turnbased combat it looks like.

I really should open up the demo and confirm this.

@Kaosu: Actually the voice doesnt seem to be as BAD as like some of the other games. *cough* BLUEDRAGON *cough*

Still I do hope also that the J version will have J voices, since I personally hate J games with eng voices in it, just because they always pick the worst fucking voice peeps ever.

  • @Gumbydunzeeto: GOD. Stop worrying over it and get one already! My launch 360 is working perfectly. You are acting like a silly stubborn mule.

  • @MasterOfPastures: While my launch 360 is also working perfectly, some smart people dont really want to take the gamble. Couple that with insane 6-8 week repair times, and it makes sense to not jump in until some of the kinks are ironed out.

This game does look hot, nothing unique, nothing thats going to shift more then a few units for a few weeks, and then fall off, like sonota and blue dragon.

  • Hey! Quit coughing on my Blue Dragon!

He's had it hard lately ...

  • @MasterOfPastures: sorry man, still holding out for the falcon. way too many horror stories for me to cave during the homestretch, plus pretty much all the non-bioshock games id want arent out yet anyway.

that said, this one's looking better. is it supposed to be playable at all at TGS? Sorta hoping for that, and some details on Cry-On. Anyway, this is just the kinda thing MS needed last gen (my opinion), glad to see it here now.

  • Its funny how this game with the time it keeps getting uglier and uglier, i was so impressed with the first screen (cg) that came out years ago (i think) and they saying that the game was going to look like that...that pic had strong colors and the face looked like a inoue drawing now dont, its all washed up and the faces doesnt have definition... i hope the game rocks, because its the 360 game that im looking more forward into ....

  • The main character looks boring looking TBA. I don't think Sakaguchi is cut out to make games anymore. I mean the guy wasn't even entirely responsible for FF7 onwards. He even admitted himself that he relied more on a 3D oriented producer to handle the games.

  • A main character with Amnesia!?
What'll those crazy Japanese think of next...

Definitely getting this though, no matter what.

  • It's looks like FFX-3 if there had been one. It doesn't matter, sign me up, I'll be playing this when it comes out.

  • Seems very cool. But hardly going to conquer japan.
I'll pick it up once they release it for PC. :)

  • No idea how it plays? It has a turn based battle system just like the ols Final Fantasy.. Didn't they showed it at last year's E3?

  • @rich8606:
    Yes. Link already posted!

  • Coming soon to a theatre near you!

  • Wait...

An immortal amnesiac who seems to regulary forget his past or why he became immortal? Doesn't that sound a bit like Planescape: Torment?

I'm sure that it will differ in the themes, and it probably won't be such a deep story, (I've never seen a story as well done as Torment, so I'm just not expecting one in the near future) but there's a curious famililarity.

  • Wt...I'm actually looking foward to playing this? When did this happen...o.O

  • Actually, the trailer does have new footage. All those action sequences after the story parts are all new except at the very end when he's looking at the camera and the title shows up.

  • This game reminds me of the old PSone title Soukaigi for some reason.

Despite my distaste for English dubs, I think game developers think it more appealing to the majority of gamers than to have Japanese dialog with English subs.

  • @Video

Yes this does look really nice. I especially liked how the main character was talking about "I have lived for a thousand years and I can recall none of it, and the battles I have been through. etc etc lovers lost etc"

I will probably go ahead and put this on my list of game's to get. I'm all for epic stories.

  • I'm kind of into it. Let me see some more in-depth coverage of the gameplay!

  • Feels alot like a modern FF title. Seems like a direct attempt to boost some hardware sales in Japan. I hope it does well, just doesn't look like my cup of tea.

  • I dunno. Looks like Drakengard without the dragon to me.

  • @fdisk:

    FFX-3?

I don't see any beach bums, stupid dancing girls with guns, or a storyline involving a dead monster father with tentacles...

  • @Samos42:

Compared it to the E3 07 trailer, nothing is new.

  • Image of Witzbold Witzbold at 11:23 AM on 09/12/07 *

@7th: How is that when the games battles play like a traditional RPG?

  • Colour me impressed with the English voice acting. I'd still want the Japanese voice track option, but it seems like it may actually be playable with the English dub.

  • Well, the trailer here didn't give an indication of what type of battle system it used, really. But mainly I was speaking of the art style. It looks like a Drakengard game.

  • @kNZA:

If by "natural lighting", you mean "excessive bloom", no thanks!

Yes, the game looks fine ;)

  • Hopefully it has better gameplay than Blue Dragon.

  • It better have better gameplay than Blue Dragon! BD was a total overhype.

  • Image of Witzbold Witzbold at 12:50 PM on 09/12/07 *

@argh: If you dont like turn based combat, then dont buy it. ;D

At least the world / story sounds interesting though. More than blue dragon anyways.

  • @kNZA: By "natural lighting", do you refer, pray chance, to the sunshine-like saturation in plentiful evidence in PGR3? Frankly, I wondered if the Motorstorm devs would take notes, and it seems they did, apart from Motorstorm's generally low-detail textures.

  • Actually, the dubs aren't dubs -- Sakaguchi had wanted the game in English to begin, so presumably it will be in English, subbed in Japanese for the Eastern market. It makes sense why the voice acting is more stellar than would be expected; then again, there was always FFX, which I was pretty floored by (prefer U.S. release to Japanese, personally).

  • If it's supposed to be out in japan this year, don't you think they could get new footage for TGS?

  • That trailer is almost identical (if not completely identical) to the one that's been on Live since E3. It's a recut at best.

Looks promising, but sweet Jesus that VO sounds absolutely horrible.

Advice to Microsoft: When paying Japanese company to make a Japanese game in English, hire English speaking people to write and direct your game dialogue. That sounded like low grade action flick overdub.

    Boo.

  • @0ldb0y:
I'll color you "of questionable taste" if you think that VO sounds good. Listen to the only other character than Kaim who speaks and tell me that doesn't sound like the outtakes of an acting class.

The only reason Kaim sounds good is because he's being voiced by an actor who's played lead parts in games for years, and made more out of worse. That dialogue sounds insipidly written, and yes you can tell that just from watching the trailer.

If that dialogue was good enough for an official trailer, somone chose because they thought it best represented the quality one could expect when the game is released.

Where the hell is Victor Ireland when you need him???

(and shame on those of you who don't know who Victor Ireland is)
