Giant-Robot Call of Duty Still Looking Like The Coolest Call of Duty

Today’s new trailer for the upcoming and final Call of Duty: Black Ops II expansion, Apocalypse, once again shows why the world would benefit from an old World War I trench warfare planes-and-blimps-and-giant-robot Call of Duty. Just look at this GIF we pulled from it! It’s from the map pack’s latest co-op zombies mission, entitled…

Kid Saving for PS4 is Robbed at His Lemonade Stand—by a BB Gun

Crime is a constant feature of video games writing. Somewhere, someone is doing something illicit with them—sometimes comically stupid, sometimes tragic. Games and consoles are currency, objects of dispute, sometimes even weapons themselves. Kotaku‘s Police Blotter is here to round up the latest in games crime. When Life Gives You Lemons JOHNSTOWN, Pa.—Ten-year-old Anthony Sanders…

If You Hate This Week In Gaming Apps, You’ll Love Next Week

Only one game in this installment of This Week in Gaming Apps is available on Android. That’s sad, and we’re going to make up for it next week, with a very special Android-only Week in Gaming Apps. Next week will be completely iOS-free. Apple platforms have been hogging the spotlight lately, largely due to featuring…

Woman Joins A Game. Things Immediately Get Ridiculous.

If you’ve played a multiplayer game, maybe you’ve watched a scene like the one from this episode of Battlefield Friends by Hank and Jedunfold—one where a woman joins your match or squad, and all of a sudden the atmosphere changes. Archetypes appear. There are people who immediately (and uncomfortably) try to flirt. There are those…

This White Xbox One Sure Is Snazzy. Too Bad It’s Only For Employees.

Images of an employee-only white Xbox One have been circulating today, and the design sure looks neat. Cooler than the black one, even. Too bad it’s just for Microsoft staff. At least for now. As for the image’s veracity… one source familiar with goings-on at Microsoft tells Kotaku it’s real, and IGN is reporting that…

‘If fighting games didn’t exist, I’d have probably gotten into Karate’

Our weekly Quick Q&A series is only ever four questions long, which should make it the perfect format for a man who came up with a minimalist fighting game that requires only two buttons. Today, that man, Adam Heart answers our four questions and poses one to you. 1. Your new fighting game, Divekick, has…

An Adventure Time x Pacific Rim Crossover Might Look Like This

Jake would make a good Jaeger, I think. Alas, this this illustration by Larry Quach isn’t directly connected to Pacific Rim—it’s just Adventure Time as a mecha show—but still. Your mind goes there too, right? Regardless, I’m sure we can all agree that Quach’s work is awesome. Here are a couple of in-progress screenshots for…

Grand Theft Auto Blamed After Eight-Year-Old Shoots Grandmother

Last week, an eight-year-old boy picked up a loaded gun and shot his grandmother in the head a few minutes after playing Grand Theft Auto IV. You’ll never guess which part of that sentence has become a talking point for pundits and media analysts over the past couple of days. On Thursday, just after 5pm,…

New Video Game Shows How Thrilling It Is To Text While You Drive

This game, designed by my friend Holden Link for the Ludum Dare jam this past weekend, is a more effective tool for caution than any PSA or lecture. Send it to every teenage driver you know. Please don’t download it on your phone and try to play while driving. Download right here

This Game Uses Your Hard Drive’s Files to Build Its Levels

Yeah, you just stay the hell out of my porn folder, AdventureOS; I’m not interested in a boss battle with Peter North. OK, that’s not actually how AdventureOS works. The files themselves don’t actually come (heh heh) to life, the game uses a folder to create a room in a castle and stock it with…

The Angry Birds Star Wars II Toys Are Out. Let’s Play While We Wait.

While Angry Birds Star Wars II isn’t out for iOS and Android until September 19, the toys you can scan into the game are already out. Why? Because unlike Skylanders and Disney Infinity‘s toys, these are bursting with playability. See for yourself! These little dudes were on the shelf at my local Wal-Mart last night.…

Your Microsoft Points Will Be Exchanged for Real Money Today

If you haven’t already, when you connect to Xbox Live today, you’ll get the console update that finally does away with Microsoft points. I logged in just now and had 680 points turned into $8.50. Microsoft has said this was coming for some time, but now it’s official. There are still a few quirks with…

Hideo Kojima Keeps It Short And Sweet For His 50th Birthday

All-star game designer Hideo Kojima turned 50 on Saturday, so consider this a belated happy birthday to the Metal Gear mastermind and your opportunity to wish him a happy 50th. What did the man himself have to say about 50? Not a ton. He tweeted this early Monday morning in what was either a delayed…

Who Wins When The Avengers and Mortal Kombat Have a Hoops Showdown?

When you have Sub-Zero wearing #23 for the Chicago Bulls, coach only needs to say one thing during a fourth-quarter timeout: Finish Him! This mod for the PC version of NBA 2K13—just spotted now, despite apparently being around for about two months—turns ordinary b-ballers into superhuman characters from Marvel Comics and Mortal Kombat. Sadly, modder…

Grand Theft Auto V: Do We Really Want to Know?

This is an article about spoilers, though there won’t be any spoilers in it. This is a piece about Grand Theft Auto V but really about what we—what you—want to know or not know. This is a piece about knowledge, about information. It’s about that seeming law of physics that guarantees that secrets can and…

The Pokémon Theme Song Is The Right Choice For An Adorable Proposal

Things can go easily wrong when you’re using the Pokémon theme song at a convention to propose to your girlfriend, but in this case it was absolutely just the opposite. A young guy named Michael surprised his girlfriend Rebecca, and the cameras of GeekBomb were lucky enough to capture it. Pokemon Proposal at PAX Australia…

Don’t Worry, We’ve Got Final Fantasy XIV Covered. Well, Mostly.

Certainly more covered than my level 14 Miqo’te archer, who spent the weekend looking for pants while everyone else was having trouble playing. I was actually rather surprised to learn that folks were having connection issues with the early start of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. I downloaded the client on Saturday morning, logged…
