The First English Trailer For Yoko Taro’s Evangelion Series Is Here To Remind You It’s Coming And Looks Great

A new English trailer for Yoko Taro’s upcoming Neon Genesis Evangelion series, simply titled Evangelion, is making the rounds online today after being revealed at CloverWorks’s Anime Expo 2026 panel. 

The series is set to be directed by Tôko Yatabe (key animator for the likes of Mob Psycho 100, Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc, and Weathering with You) and Kazuya Tsurumaki (key animator for Evangelion: 1.0, Evangelion: 2.0, and Evangelion: 3.0+1.01), with the soundtrack being composed by Taro’s longstanding NieR contributor, Keiichi Okabe.

Yoko Taro himself will be producing the series’ screenplay, while the animation duties will be handled by CloverWorks and Studio Khara, the latter of which animated the last three Neon Genesis Evangelion movies.

Beyond that, we don’t actually know much about Evangelion. In fact, this is the second time that the series has been announced–this is just the first time we’ve received an official English translation for the trailer that was originally shown off in February.

While fans are seemingly quite excited for the project, they’re also equally confused as to what exactly the point of it is, considering that the final film in the Rebuild of Evangelion series, Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time, seemed like a rather conclusive end to the story.

Still, it’s cool nonetheless, if only because Yoko Taro himself has previously stated that Neon Genesis Evangelion was the main inspiration behind NieR. In an interview with Square Enix last year, Taro was asked what inspired him to make NieR, and he only had one answer: “Definitely Evangelion. But then, everything I make is influenced by Evangelion.”

Well, I guess that will still be the case moving forward, as his new Evangelion project will hopefully be influenced by Neon Genesis Evangelion. No word on a release date yet, but I’d be surprised if we see this before the end of 2027.
