The latest beta patch for Slay the Spire 2 just dropped, and I’m not exaggerating when I say that this is probably the silliest patch Mega Crit has ever dropped. Thanks to an odd mix of nerfs, buffs, and relic reworks, the community has already managed to break the game in several unique ways.
Slay the Spire 2’s v0.109.0 beta patch released this morning, and there’s a lot to go through for this one. In terms of enemy buffs/nerfs, two of the Act 3 bosses got some damage changes. Aeonglass received some small damage nerfs and no longer hits like a truck on turn one, but to balance things out, the Torchhead Amalgam minion in The Queen boss fight now does more damage on its first turn.
We also received a couple of new Neow relics, both of which are interesting but pretty weird. Neow’s Sacrifice adds a Guilty curse to your deck, but also gives you one Ambergris potion. Ambergris is new in this patch, restoring 50 percent of your max HP and also letting you immediately take another turn for free after using it. That should basically turn any boss fight in the game into a free win, so it sounds pretty strong to me.

The other new Neow relic is Dowsing Rod. This is another odd one, as it adds an unplayable Dowsing card to your deck. After entering five event rooms, Dowsing will transform into Abundance; a 1-cost skill card that lets you choose one of three free power cards to add to your hand. It can be a little tricky to transform Dowsing into Abundance in Act 1, but I think the payoff here is worth it.
And, finally, and most controversially, there’s a bunch of card nerfs and buffs. On the nerfs front, Ironclad’s Dominate is no longer uncommon, and has been bumped up to rare status. Deserved, in my opinion, as it’s a ridiculously strong card. Regent’s Pillar of Creation now grants you 5 block once per turn when you create a card, instead of giving you 3 block every time you create a card. That also feels fair, considering how strong Regent feels these days.
Personally, I find the most baffling change in this patch is to Silent’s Well-Laid Plans. Now, instead of being a 0-cost uncommon card that lets you retain up to two cards per turn, it’s a 0-cost rare card that lets you retain all of your cards for the rest of the fight.
Runic Pyramid, which has the same effect, is often touted as one of the best relics in the entire game, so Well-Laid Plans now seems absolutely busted. Plus, Runic Pyramid is especially strong on Silent, as she has multiple cards that benefit from having a larger hand, and several cards that stop your hand from getting clogged up. It even makes enabling Sly cards easier. I would not be surprised if this change gets reverted or nerfed.
However, the funniest change has to be to Necromancer’s Eidolon. The card no longer exhausts your hand and grants you 1 Intangible, instead now playing “ALL Ethereal cards in your Exhaust Pile.” If you’re wondering why this is funny, it’s because the community has already found several ways to abuse this new mechanic.
For instance, with a rather specific setup, you can now use Eidolon to scale The Scythe, which gains 4 permanent extra damage every time it’s played, infinitely. Likewise, if you have Sentry Mode in your deck, Eidolon will now replay every single Sweeping Gaze you’ve already played.
But that’s not the silliest interaction. That honor belongs to…Eidolon. You see, if you use a card like Sculpting Strike to make Eidolon ethereal, and then play a second Eidolon, Eidolon will trigger the Eidolon that’s already in your exhaust pile. Theoretically, if you were to get two ethereal Eidolons in your exhaust pile, the Eidolons would infinitely play each other. Hilariously stupid, and I really hope Mega Crit doesn’t change this one.
