Over the past few days or so, a strange-looking bathroom sign in Marvel’s Wolverine, the latest big PS5 superhero game from Insomniac, has gone viral online as some fans and creators wondered if it was AI-generated. And while the sign does look a bit sloppy, Insomniac has explained that it’s just a bug and that they will be fixing it soon.
Since launching earlier this week exclusively on PlayStation 5, Insomniac’s Wolverine has received a lukewarm reception from fans and critics. And for some online, especially content creators, the game has become a gold mine for them to poke at and dunk on. Everything from the game’s story, to its cutscenes, to its use of impossible-to-fail quick time events has been put under a microscope and shared online for millions of views. (None of that has stopped it from quickly becoming one of PlayStation’s best-selling PS5 games.) And the latest example of that is a single bathroom sign that looks all garbled and sloppy.

A TikTok went viral earlier this week, accumulating over 700,000 views while showcasing the odd-looking sign, which appears to show multiple male stick figures clipping into each other. The Twitter account RockSolid shared screenshots of the strange bathroom sign and posted: “I don’t wanna accuse anyone, but did Insomniac really use AI in their $ 300 million Wolverine game???” That tweet has over 315k views. Likely sensing this was possibly going to become a much bigger problem, Insomniac’s community and marketing director, James Stevenson, squashed the rumors and accusations bluntly on Twitter.
“No,” posted Stevenson in response to RockSolid’s viral tweet. “This is a UV map bug, and we have a fix coming. There are no AI-generated assets in Marvel’s Wolverine.”
And yeah, that explanation makes a lot of sense to me. If you look at the sign in different screenshots and from different angles, its appearance shifts, almost like textures are colliding. It doesn’t look like the usual AI slop we normally see. Besides, why would Insomniac use AI tools to generate something so simple? In fact, they likely already had this bathroom sign somewhere in their asset folder after recreating New York City in multiple Spider-Man games. Plus, nothing else in this game looks or seems AI-generated.
With Wolverine so under the microscope right now, it was only a matter of time before a small texture bug got accused of being an AI-generated asset. And in 2026, any sort of strange-looking piece of art or text can quickly draw accusations of AI slop. As someone who hates AI-generated art and text with a passion, I also try to warn people to not throw out accusations so willy-nilly. It can really cause problems for artists, and just makes it easier for real AI slop to slip through the cracks. Thankfully, AI is not the issue here, and Insomniac will have this minor visual bug fixed soon.
