Final Fantasy VII Revelation will be the biggest game yet in the remake trilogy. Square Enix is cramming as much content as possible into the upcoming RPG, which includes not just new battle systems but the ability to explore all of the scope creep from the comfort of an airship. But worry not; players who don’t want to engage in the ever-increasing amount of side content don’t have to. There will apparently be a completely new quality-of-life feature in Revelation that lets players auto-boost to the recommended character level at certain points in the story.
Director Naoki Hamaguchi revealed the new feature in a recent Tokyo Game Show 2026 interview with IGN Japan (via VGC). According to a translation by Genki on X, the director said this new option was added in response to player feedback from Rebirth that those who only wanted to beeline through the main story kept feeling punished for being under-leveled. Not dabbling in all of the side quests could really come back to bite you in the ass in the last game, especially toward the final stretch of boss fights.
To address that point of friction, Revelation will apparently ask players at various points in the story if they want to automatically boost their party’s level to the recommended level for that area. This sounds like a great idea for fans who just want to see how the story concludes, though it’ll also essentially act as a series of “man behind the curtain” moments reminding players that the level-gating in the game is essentially arbitrary.
Square Enix has been experimenting a lot recently with various options to make the games feel more approachable for anyone who’s not in love with the traditional RPG grind. The Pixel Remasters of the original games included quality-of-life settings to let fans toggle how much XP and Gil they get from battles. Remake and Rebirth also received new difficulty settings when they were ported to Switch 2 and Xbox to make combat easier, even going so far as to let every attack do 9,999 damage if players wanted.
While it doesn’t sound like Square Enix will be offering that mode in Revelation, at least at launch, the auto-level boosting should come in handy for people just trying to get to the ending to see how everything wraps up. It also might help with those multiple playthroughs that the game reportedly requires to experience everything in it. Even a single completionist playthrough will apparently take over 100 hours.
