Walli is a wallpaper app for anyone who wants something more distinctive than the standard backgrounds that come with a phone. Instead of focusing only on generic landscapes or abstract patterns, it showcases artwork from a community of illustrators, graphic designers, and photographers. That gives the collection a more creative feel, with options ranging from colorful digital illustrations to detailed photography and minimalist designs.
The app also puts the people behind the artwork in the spotlight. Artists can receive credit for their work, build an audience, and earn a share of the app's revenue. For users, this means you can discover new creators while finding a background that suits your taste. Whether you prefer bold colors, calm scenery, or unusual illustrations, Walli offers a way to refresh your home and lock screens without having to create your own images.
Walli is designed primarily for mobile devices, so its wallpapers are intended to work with phone and tablet screens. You can browse the collection, find designs that appeal to you, and save your favorites for later. The app has also expanded beyond its original artist-led collection, with newer versions promoting features such as high-resolution and live wallpapers. The exact selection of features and content may vary by version and platform.
What Are the Key Features of Walli?
Walli's main attraction is its collection of artwork created by artists from around the world. Rather than relying entirely on stock photography, it offers original illustrations, graphic designs, and photographs that can give your phone a more individual look. The collection covers different tastes, from colorful and playful images to minimalist compositions, nature scenes, and more detailed digital art. This variety makes it easier to find a background that feels personal rather than simply choosing the first image that fits your screen.
The app also helps you discover artists, not just their work. Selected creators can have profiles that showcase their wallpapers and give users a way to explore more of their designs. This is useful if you find an illustration you like and want to see what else the same artist has made. Walli's artist-focused approach also gives creators visibility and the opportunity to earn a share of the revenue generated through the app.
Browsing and organizing wallpapers is straightforward. You can explore different categories, check popular or recently added designs, and save images you like to a favorites collection. This makes it easier to return to a background later instead of having to search for it again. Depending on the current app version, additional options may include following artists, receiving notifications about new work, and using automatic wallpaper playlists to change your background on a schedule.
Is Walli Free to Use?
Walli is free to download, and you can explore its wallpaper collection without paying upfront. However, the app also includes advertisements and in-app purchases, so not every feature or design is necessarily available for free. Some versions offer premium subscriptions that remove ads and unlock exclusive content or additional features.
Which Platforms Support Walli?
Walli is available for Android and iOS, making it an option for most smartphone users. You can install it on compatible Android phones and tablets through Google Play, or use the iPhone and iPad version from Apple's App Store. The current iOS listing requires iOS 16 or later on iPhone and iPadOS 16 or later on iPad.
What Are the Best Alternatives to Walli?
Backdrops is a strong alternative if you enjoy original artwork but want another artist-led wallpaper collection to explore. It features designs created by its own team, alongside community submissions and a broad range of styles, including abstract patterns, minimal designs, scenery, and AMOLED-friendly backgrounds. You can save favorites and discover new designs through regular updates. Some collections and features require payment, so it's worth comparing its free selection with Walli's before choosing.
WallCraft is worth considering if image resolution and animated backgrounds matter more to you than discovering individual artists. It focuses on high-resolution wallpapers, including 4K and 8K options where available, as well as live backgrounds with motion and depth effects. Its library is suited to users who want a more dramatic or dynamic look for their home and lock screens. The app is available on Android and iOS, with ads and in-app purchases.
Muzei Live Wallpaper takes a different approach. Instead of asking you to choose a new static image every time, it can automatically refresh your Android home screen with famous works of art. It also lets you use images from your own gallery or other supported sources, with options to rotate personal photos throughout the day. Muzei is a better fit if you want your wallpaper to change automatically and prefer a quieter presentation that keeps app icons easy to see. Unlike Walli, it's focused on Android and automatic wallpaper rotation rather than browsing a broad mobile art community.
