The Final Fantasy XIII series—the original, XIII-2, and Lightning Returns—are all heading to Xbox One’s backward compatibility next week, Square Enix said at X018 today. They join the other Final Fantasy classics heading to Xbox One in 2019. Read more

Shigeru Miyamoto is “front and center in the creation” of the upcoming Super Mario animated film, the studio’s founder Chris Meledandri told Variety. “I’ve rarely seen that happen with any adaptation where the original creative voice is being embraced like we’re embracing Miyamoto,” he said. Jade Raymond has left Electronic Arts. The original producer of the Assassin’s Creed series, Raymond founded the EA Motive studio in 2015 after a 10-year stint at Ubisoft. Originally tasked with overseeing Amy Hennig’s now-canceled Star Wars game, Motive is now at work on a different Star Wars project and a new IP. Read more

AtGames will release a “Legends Flashback” console on October 1, with 50 console and arcade games including Mega Man 1 and 2, Super SFII, Joe & Mac, Bad Dudes, and, weirdly, the Famicom version of Tetris. It’ll have HDMI out, save states, and rewind. Read more

Wandered into an Akihabara store last night and had an amazing score: Nintendo’s 1970s electro-mechanical Duck Hunt toy! This was what inspired the NES game. The store, notorious for its high standards, had it marked at 3000 yen ($27) because it was missing the battery cover. Read more
