You know all that female on quasi-female alien action in Mass Effect? Don't play dumb, pervs. We all know it's the hottest quasi-female alien scene since Total Recall (and before that, probably the original Star Trek). Anyway, according to GameAxis, that juicy content has gotten Bioware's game banned in Singapore. And as far as we're concerned, restricting mature audiences from enjoying the fruits of love's labor between two hot, anatomically-compatible humanoids is outright un-American.

How can they be denied that? It just aint right.
wouldn't gay right activists protest for such a ban?
Still not feeling the "hotness" of Blue McSpikyhead, but different strokes for different folks, I guess.
Amusingly, of all the nations that could ban the game, Singapore was one I hadn't even thought of. I would've expected the ESRB to attack it like a pack of rabid dogs before Singapore had a problem with it, but I guess sometimes the Weird-O-Meter tips a little too far.
Would lady-boy on lady-boy have been ok?
So....does this mean the Singaporean(?) government acknowledges the existence of alien lifeforms?
Especially sexy humanoid, female ones :O
.....nah, didnt think so.
What is the world coming to, seriously?
@Iceman_B: Singapore has always been like this.
Umm..Gay Activists in Singapore?
Mmmm...yeah...right up there with the huge gay movement in Iran.
Homosexuality is illegal in Singapore...I don't think a video gam ban will be enough to sway the government.
I wasn't getting this game in the first place and no amount of girl on girl action will get me to reconsider.
The Singapore version of C&C: Red Alert has no blood.
Thats right, those 5 or so pixels of blood when a troop dies was deemed offensive.
Un-American, maybe. But it doesn't seem particularly un-Singaporean.
@Nascar: you can be hanged for sodomy over there, and fellatio is illegal too
That is a stupid ban seeing that there is nothing actually shown during the sequence save for a kiss. In fact the above picture is really as risque as it gets and is so vague (as a still anyways) it doesn't need a NSFW label.
BTW...I'm still waiting for Red XIII and Aeris to get it on...but thats just me.
Oh, Mark... hah hah - Singapore's actions are Un-American. That's awesome.
I think you'll agree there is no more beautiful image on God's green Earth than two women together. Forget Al Queda, lets focus our efforts on taking Singapore down!
Btw, Singapore tourism just dropped by 50%....
@Morgoth: I know, this isn't the first report like this I've heard about Singapore but seriously, what do they hope to accomplish.
The scene contains a frickin' ALIEN female.
NOT a human female, not TWO human females.....*sigh*
@H_Chinaski: so true..
@PownerOfNewbs: a gay Al Queda, thats just what they need!
@veritasvierge:
If Nascar's right (which I'm guessing he is, I just haven't done my research), then it's the homosexuality of the scene itself that's the problem and causing the ban, not the visual images. It'd be like having a scene of child molestation in a video game in the US, even if "nothing was shown".
If that's the case though, then simplest enough; BioWare could always just cut the "lesbian" subplot out of the game and it'd probably be pretty easy to get it released. It's not like it's a major part of the game.
if singapore finds any thing even a little sexy, it's banned.
damn it, I chose the wrong answer in the dialogue tree and got the bad Singapore outcome.
I wish our country could take fast action like that and ban Soulja Boy from making crap.
@Psychotext: LOLZ!!! nice one..
@Psychotext: Flashbacks of that Spanish-learning game...
And check out the cool Blu-Ray Lazer Phaser vid after you read off of the site. That's pimpin'.
GOD DAMNIT
They pulled this with Half-life. But there was a protest, I think, and it went through.
I hope that there's nearly as much support for Mass Effect.
Damnit. I hate my region.
Awwww... how cute. Bioware is having it vewy own WockStaw moment.

@shinryuu: wwwww Man if you're gonna make rap music, make more than just a hook as the whole song. Jadakiss, anybody?
Weird.. Prostitution is legal in Singapore, and most, or a large portion of those prostitues (legal ones) are trannies.
Thank god I moved out of that draconian strict-ass country 19 years ago. Well, that and Malaysia probably will most likely ban it as well.
In before Saudi Arabia.
Sorry for the three posts, but:
@NumberFourtyThree: Damn. Ya learn somethin' new ev'ry day!
@kyosen: Yeah when I made my trip back there they were all clobbering over me, and I was like uhggghh no thanks, I like my women REAL, if you know what I mean.
@RRoD: Gays actually have rights in Singapore?
@Nascar: Oh. I guess that answer my question. :-(
Talk about dumb. So, prostitution is legal in Singapore, but not this? Barbaric and backward closed-mindedness aside, shouldn't the government be focusing on priorities??
@Archaotic: Yeah, I just did the research. Nascar is right... (scratches Singapore off list of places to visit)
Interesting. I never saw singapore as being overly strict on censorship. :/
Guess you learn something new every day.
SIngapore is a scary scary place. While on the plane, taxi'ing you get a message over the intercom saying 'Drugs mean death in SIngapore'. Getting off the plane you see signs saying the same hting.
@Witzbold: Dude we said the same thing. I'll give this one to you this time. Only because you're 14 hours ahead of me.
lol.. it was bound to get banned somewhere... Girl on girl? COMN
So, if it was guy-on-girl it'd be okay there?
@Tonx:
Singpore's actions are great in this case.
Looks like someone at MDA's getting trigger happy. :|
Repel! Repel!
Homofobic dicks.
This from the same country that has child sex tourism.
Remind to not give a shit about you ever, Singapore. Cause, really, you sound like a horrible place.
@clbrowni:
yes a place where personal freedom and enjoyment is prohibited. great place. at least they have clean streets eh.
How can this game get banned just for a lame sex scene, and yet Manhunt 2 is making its way onto shelves? Really now, even the "acceptable" version of Manhunt 2 is far worse than a few females expressing their emotions physically, which is about as much as you would see in a PG-13 movie by today's standards.
In the year 2525, girls and girls still can't enjoy a little warmth together in the cold, black voids of space.
It's insulting honestly that a game is banned over a conditional factor that a player pretty much has the choice to make going into the game (be a girl, engage in sex).
Honestly, What do you think you'll accomplish by banning this game? to quell the girl on girl alien sexual movement?! Come on, what a load of utter bullshit this is.
@chip5541: I urge you to check your facts about foreign countries before making remarks like that.
The banning though, ridiculous.
@Huginn: It's actually 2183, but that's just semantics.
In retaliation (not for the game, but for the conditions), Bioware should ban Singapore from the Mass Effect universe.
"Whoops! Turians blew it up, sorry."
@Huginn: Hey, don't underestimate the GoGASM...
They're out there
>_>
<_<
Banning it is a little extreme. The game is supposed to be one of the best games this year and it's being banned for an optional event that displays partial nudity? That's not cool.
In the future, women won't need men to have children, and feminists will rule the world. Now make THAT into a game.
