When word broke that many of the Big Daddy figures included with the limited edition version of 2K Games' BioShock shipped damaged, the publisher did its best to make good on addressing the problem. Simply register your complaint, return your busted Big Daddy, then wait patiently for your replacement and complimentary printed art book. A six- to eight-week process, I'm sure.
Today, those afflicted with borked Big Daddy syndrome were delighted to learn that 2K will not require gamers to return their Big Daddies (with Battle Damage!), noting that constant watch of the mail carrier is all that is now required. 2K wrote to its customers: "In the next two weeks, we will begin shipping out a single package containing both the replacement figurine and the art book to customers who enrolled in the program by November 12th. There will be no return box or need to return the broken figurine to our attention."
Your old Big Daddy can therefor be used for rooftop parachuting experiments and the creation of a wide variety of dioramas.

Is that a replacement figure in the picture? It's missing the wire on the top of his head.
My roomate knocked mine over last weekend and his arm broke off. I tried gluing it together and it seemed to work pretty well, as long as I don't let him near it again.
Burn him with fire next time.
in before the "Uses for my broken Big Daddy" comments....
Edit: too late.
@Archcoder: The Big Daddies do look awesome post napalming.
I'm willing to bet they never intended to make people send it back to begin with, considering shipping and fuel costs these days. I think they just put that clause in there to deter anyone trying to scam a free artbook and big daddy figure.
i have a fully functional big daddy that hasnt even been removed from its box - why oh why do i always go the special editions when i dont really care about all the free crap :(
I will gladly take anyone's broken Big Daddy, when they receive their replacement. I am unforunate to have a 360 or be able to get the SE due to the fact I have no 360. If interested in blessing me with your unwanted Big Daddy figure leave feedback.
**EDIT: unfortunate to NOT have a 360
So am I still too late to get a new one? lame
@liquid_kore: you should have broken your roommate's arm :p
I have a perfectly fine BD, just wish I could get a hold of an Art-Book ;/
@
I got my figurine with the LE PC version, you didn't have to go the 360 version to get it. It was cheaper for PC too :)
(LE pc = normal vers 360 price at my EB)
I never even knew about all this, but now its way past Nov 12th. Damn.
I'm going to pit mine in a duel to the death!
Mine had the tip on the drill broken. A little bit of super glue fixed it.
Hot damn! Mine had the tip of the drill broken off, but superglue would not fix it, as some of the bit that broke off... well, broke off. I was getting worried when I still hadn't received my box.
This would be great news if I didn't live in the UK. Sadly because I do I've been screwed over during this entire joke of a replacement process.
Got mine, found it was broken, and registered it that week (I think the day after the site went live). Still haven't had my box sent. I took it up with CS mid-October, they said that it was too late. I asked to have it escalated to a supervisor, and they did. I was told I'd have a box in a few weeks, and that they had just barely managed to find me one as the replacement plan was over and all replacements orders had been fulfilled.
Did I miss something? Were any of them replaced so far? Does this mean I'm going to get mine now? I'm not sure, so I'm going to try CS again.
What about Kotaku folks: anyone here have one replaced yet? I was aobut to anyway (Black Friday was the deadline I'd set myself), but I'd like to hear if anyone has had any luck so far.
Gah...I received the email but I have since moved from where I registered with 2k.....I hope the package somehow makes it to my new address.
So this means I get my replacement I ordered when BioShock came out? That was how many months ago? I've completely forgotten about it. But hey, whatever, two bid daddies are better than one! And I do like the fact that my old broken one is "original".
I have to say that this is a case of a game publisher going above and beyond the call. I sincerely doubt that you would see this level of customer attention from the likes of EA.
All the more reason to buy games new so that you can support your favorite developer/publisher directly.
@sirdanf: I suppose you've never had to RMA electronic items before. It's standard procedure to have the customer return the defective item, have the company verify that the item is indeed defective, before issuing a replacement item. I understand that this isn't an electronic item, but the procedure should still be the same.
So go 2K for being so nice!
@kayoko: They also probably were only planning to do that for verification purposes. Then they asked themselves "In all honesty, what the hell are we going to do with a bunch of broken Big Daddies?"
Unless you're in Australia...
MINE IS BROKEN!
Yay my tip is here!!! LOL I almost forgot about the figure sitting in it's box waiting to be shipped back but now I can take Micheal's advice and try out that parachute.
Oh man, badass! I can probably fix the broken one and have two.
@yanthrax: Well, can't say no to a Big Daddy katamari. Go, Mr. Bubbles!
@vectorscalar: I was the same as you, "registered" for the replacement first week, but this is the first I've heard of anything happening from it.
@pyrealnova (or anyone else): Irrational sent you a confirmation email? I don't remember ever receiving one.
cool, i ws wondering when i'd finally see my unsmashed big daddy ^-^
