The upcoming The Witcher multiplayer game, known as Project Sirius, has lost another chunk of its development team, Kotaku has learned.
Kotaku understands that nine individuals were let go from the Project Sirius team today, with another nine in the process of moving to other projects within the studio, alongside a broader shift in development strategy.
Project Sirius has seemingly been struggling over the course of its development. Revealed in 2022 as a new project from the CDPR-acquired studio The Molasses Flood, little is known about Project Sirius except that it’s a single-player and cooperative multiplayer Witcher game. It was then rebooted in 2023 with 29 of its developers laid off at the time. Things have been relatively silent from the studio since, though Kotaku understands the project had been going relatively well recently, following some changes made this past spring. Recently, CDPR hired acclaimed Destiny 2 writer Kwan Perng as a lead writer on the project.
Update 12:50p.m. ET: CD Projekt has shared a statement with Kotaku, confirming that four staff in its Boston office and five in Warsaw have been let go, with nine others able to apply for roles on other project. Prior to this layoff, 83 individuals were working on Project Sirius, bringing the total now to 65. “We adjusted the size of the Sirius team to reflect the project’s needs at this stage of development,” the company said in its statement.
