Ubisoft’s free-to-play looter shooter Tom Clancy’s The Division Resurgence, which originally released on Android and iOS on March 31, made its way to Steam earlier this month on August 5. However, the mobile-to-PC port of the game is already taking a thoroughly sound whooping in the reviews department for featuring, as one Steam reviewer puts it, “heavy menu clutter, Loot boxes, and monetization shortcuts that definitely scream Pay-to-win.”

As spotted by PC Gamer, The Division Resurgence was announced solely as a mobile title via its reveal trailer on July 7, 2022. Ubisoft then decided, after the game finally got a successful mobile release earlier this year, that a PC port of the game was in order.

Well, if you were expecting the game to, perhaps, be updated and modernized for PCs, guess again. It seems that Ubisoft has decided to do the bare minimum with the PC port—although maybe that should have been expected, considering that Ubisoft’s own recommended specs for The Division Resurgence feature GPUs from 2019.

As a result, the barebones attempt to differentiate the PC version from the original Android and iOS release of the game has earned it a “Mixed” rating on Steam, with only 45 percent of user reviews, as of this writing, being positive ones. Players are primarily taking issue with the overabundance of microtransactions and the UI that’s clearly ripped directly from the mobile version.

Speaking of pay-to-win mechanics, it’s odd that Ubisoft funneled any manpower into porting a lesser, microtransaction-heavy version of The Division over to PC when the first game was on sale for less than $3 earlier this year. Exactly why anyone would pay for microtransactions that cost more than the price of the entire first game is beyond me, but maybe there are some die-hard The Division fans out there who need something to tide them over until Ubisoft announces The Division 3.
