Unpacking
You never see the main character of Unpacking, but that’s precisely what makes this cozy puzzle game such a brilliant exercise in narrative design. From an isometric perspective, you unpack the belongings of one woman over the course of several pivotal moves: childhood room, starter apartment, first significant other, et cetera. The “puzzle” aspect simply consists of finding space, in the broadly appropriate area, for the toys and clothes and tchotchkes she’s brought with her—or left behind—from place to place. Like a coloring book, Unpacking gives you the outline. It’s up to you to fill in the rest.
