Mortal Kombat has dabbled in horror icons as characters in the past. Next up? Friday the 13th‘s Jason Voorhees in next month’s Mortal Kombat X. The bad news? The Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions have been delayed until summer. You can reach the author of this post at [email protected] or on Twitter at @patrickklepek

Mortal Kombat X is coming to iOS and Android next month as a free-to-play fighting/card-game, shades of the mobile version of Injustice: Gods Among Us. The mobile MK will link to the console version for unlockable goodness. I don’t know about you, but “Swipe! Finish Him” doesn’t have quite the same ring.

After Two Decades, I’ve Finally Outgrown Mortal Kombat’s Violence
It’s taken Mortal Kombat X to show me how much I’ve changed since 1992. This post originally appeared on Kotaku UK See, back then I was in love with a new arcade game they’d just installed in the cinema at Sheffield’s Meadowhall shopping centre (this was before the proper arcade was even built). It looked…

How Mortal Kombat X Brings Players Together While Tearing Them Apart
While the fighting is always nice, my favorite elements of modern Mortal Kombat games are the extra bits—challenges, unlockables, and side activities outside of the core one-on-one battles. That’s why I’m excited about Mortal Kombat X‘s Faction War meta game. When players begin their journey in Mortal Kombat X this coming April, they’ll choose from…

The system requirements for Mortal Kombat X recently popped up on the game’s Steam page, giving us all a better sense of what it’ll take to render all that spine-ripping in gloriously hyperbolic detail. Thankfully, it won’t take all that much by modern high-end PC gaming standards. Huzzah!

Reptile Returns In Mortal Kombat X, And He’s So Dreamy
The tongue, the acid spit, the evisceration — so adorable. The very first secret Mortal Kombat character is the latest combatant revealed for Mortal Kombat X. How far our little palette-swap has come since his clandestine Mortal Kombat debut. From hidden character with a combination of Sub-Zero and Scorpion’s powers to his own person or…

Our First Look At Princess Kitana In Mortal Kombat X
Of course Kitana is going to be in Mortal Kombat X. You try telling the adopted daughter of Shao Kahn to stay home and watch Gilmore Girls on Netflix. Kitana, named because one of her parents must have seen a katana somewhere, has been a fixture of the fighting game series since Mortal Kombat II,…

The New Mortal Kombat Comic Isn’t Even Bad in a Good Way
It’s one thing to have low expectations for a comic book spinning off of a video game. It’s entirely another to have the project come in under those expectations. Unfortunately, the new Mortal Kombat X digital comic out this week does the latter. Look: like many fighting games, the story driving Mortal Kombat‘s to-the-death fights…

Kung Lao Appears In Mortal Kombat X As An Old Man With A Hat
With Mortal Kombat X‘s story spanning some 25 years after the events of Mortal Kombat 9, it’s no wonder former Shaolin monk Kung Lao is looking a bit long in the tooth. It beats being dead. Not that he was dead at the end of the last game or anything. Well, not that being dead…

Five Gaming Rumors That Were Too Good To Stay Fake
Lots of things in video games sound too good to be true. But what about when it’s the other way around—when something is too good to not be true? Erhm, you know what I mean. The trivia-themed YouTube channel “Did You Know Gaming?” recently took a look at five myths that became so pervasive among…

This Is Just the First Part of Scorpion’s Mortal Kombat X Fatality…
The rest of the undead ninja’s finishing move is… let’s just say you just have to see it. Shown during a Twitch stream by Mortal Kombat X developer Netherrealm, Scorpion’s newest finishing move is one of the most brutal moments in an already gory, over-the-top game. The stream also included fresh looks at other characters’…

Mortal Kombat Doctors Are Miracle Workers
No matter how many times I’ve torn Johnny Cage in half, he keeps coming back. The Warp Zone gives us a look at the men behind the de-mutilation. In less violent fighting games it’s pretty easy to imagine Ryu or Ken taking to the sidelines for a couple of days to nurse their wounds. Maybe…

Looks Like Mortal Kombat‘s Evil Sorcerer Will Annoy You More Than Ever
There’s a move at the end of this character reveal that made me wince and go “Ooooh….” Quan Chi, I’ve always hated you. After teasing series creator Ed Boon teased Mortal Kombat fans for two days on Twitter, a new video reveals the return of the fighting game franchise’s demonic necromancer to the upcoming Mortal…

When Super Mario World Meets Mortal Kombat
It all began when Mario was violently murdered by Shang Tsung. It all went downhill from there. Or uphill, depending on how much you like gore YouTuber NicksplosionFX is back with yet another Mario crossover video. It’s a sequel of sorts to one of his earlier ones from two or so years ago, where Scorpion…

How Mortal Kombat Is Getting More Complex
The next Mortal Kombat is going deep. Not just in the ‘show you highly detailed internal organs’ kind of way, either. The newly announced Variations feature and other tweaks in Mortal Kombat X are going to give players other layers of options for how they beat each other up. As previously detailed, players will be…

Mortal Kombat X Manages To Make Kano Look Interesting
My least favorite kombatant since the original game, Kano returns next year in Mortal Kombat X with some killer new moves and looks that will both stop and start traffic. The older, wiser Kano has received some serious cybernetic upgrades since last we saw him, accessorizing his signature glowing eye with what looks to be…
