The summer is almost over, kids are going back to school, and Sony has revealed the next batch of monthly free games for paid PlayStation Plus subscribers. It’s a particularly strong batch, too, including last year’s entry in Sony’s MLB The Show baseball franchise and two really great indie games.
On August 28, PlayStation revealed next month’s selection of PS5 and PS4 games that will be available to all PS Plus subscribers across all tiers. These games will be available to add to your PlayStation library permanently starting on September 1. Once added, you can install them and play them whenever you want as long as you remain an active PS Plus Essential, Extra, or Premium subscriber. Here’s the list of new games and what platforms they’re available on:

You don’t want to wait too long to grab these PS Plus monthly games, as they’re only available to grab for free until October 5. After that, a new batch of not-yet-announced games will be made available to subscribers.
Chained Echoes is my favorite of the bunch. For my money, it’s the best old-school pixel art turn-based RPG out there, with a novel twist on combat, a big world to explore, and some really beautiful visuals. You play as a band of mercenaries and misfits trying to unravel a conspiracy involving a crystal that functions like a nuclear bomb and to prevent all-out war between different kingdoms. Encounters can get grindy and the pacing occasionally lags, but it’s pound-for-pound one of the best SNES-style retro RPGs around.
Wobbly Life is a online multiplayer chaos simulator. You complete jobs, play mini-games, and embark on goofy story missions in a physics-based sandbox engineered to produce dumb fun. Respec‘s Tom Orry previously called it “GTA for kids,” which is appropriate. “I’ve watched my son play Wobbly Life aged seven to 11, and this game simply has the juice,” he wrote when it left Early Access last year. “What this juice is made of is hard to pinpoint, but I think the key ingredient is a commitment to quality. None of the activities, missions, or jobs here are detailed enough to stand on their own, but they do just enough and let kids fill in the blanks.” He argued that it’s a great way to keep your kids off Roblox, and I agree.
