PlayStation streamed a new State of Play showcase to announce PS5 games and show off trailers, but all anyone cared about in the Twitch chat was Destiny 3 and how Bungie reportedly isn’t working on it. Demands for a sequel to the loot shooter that is unexpectedly sunsetting later this month spammed the channel through the hour-long event.
While Wolverine was busy stabbing random goons onscreen, viewers in the Twitch chat kept writing things like #WeWantDestiny3 and flooding the rapidly updating text box with a Destiny 3 emote created by Destiny streamer Aztecross. The content creator had previously announced he would never play Marathon again if Bungie moved ahead with killing off Destiny 2.
“I don’t want to play Marathon,” he said last month. “I’ll play it maybe seasonally. I may jump in a few weeks, but I want Destiny. I want Destiny 3. I want this universe expanded. And Marathon, if I have to f*cking bury you myself to send that message, I shall. I will do everything I can to destroy you.”

Fans treated it as a rallying cry to boycott Bungie’s new game until Bungie committed to making Destiny 3. A petition to that effect has already garnered over 330,000 signatures online. Some players are calling on one another to flood Destiny 2‘s servers when its final update goes live on June 9. Others are still just in mourning over the last-minute decision by the studio to abandon the loot shooter’s previously promised summer expansion.
During the PlayStation State of Play, meanwhile, the frustration was on full display. One of the only brief breaks in the steady wall of Destiny 3 emotes was near the middle of the presentation when Sony promoted Marathon season 2 which went live earlier today.
“Booooooo,” wrote one person. “I will never play Marathon,” wrote another.
