Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order comes out on Switch on July 19. Announced at last year’s Game Awards, the action role-playing game has four player coop both online and locally, and revolves around trying to hunt down and collect the Infinity Stones before Thanos can.
I would still love to know how this game came about. Like, it’s cool that they’re making a Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, but it’s weird that it’s happening around the same time Square-Enix is working on a high profile Avengers games franchise (which presumably overlaps a bit in its goals of making a team-based Marvel game), weirder still that it’s being developed by Team Ninja, and the absolute weirdest part is that it’s a Switch exclusive published by Nintendo.
Like... what series of events led to this happening? If you had asked me a year ago about a hypothetical MUA3 I would have assumed it would’ve been a cross-platform affair made by a Western developer but probably wouldn’t happen due to the perceived conflict in mindshare between this and the S-E Avengers project, but I would have been wildly wrong.
