Welcome back to 1999, a year when phones were bigger, jeans and cars were the same size (as each another), and men larger than phones or jeans or cars were prancing around in outer space. Facing Worlds is one of the best maps to come out of the Unreal Tournament series, and arguably one of…

Why Is It So Hard To Make Video Games For Kids?

“Daddy? DADDY!” I look up from my laptop. This video game was supposed to give me a precious 15 minute respite from the endless drudgery of parenthood. What the hell’s gone wrong now? “DADDY WHAT I DO? “WHAT I DOOOOOO?” It must be really hard to make a good video game for kids. I know…

Praise The Dark Souls Cosplay

This Dark Souls cosplay by Cosarmor & Props won top prize at the Emerald City Comic Con earlier this month with this Dragon Slayer Ornstein ensemble, and for good reason: it’s practically an actual suit of armour. Cosarmor tells me the suit “is 100% scratch built using primarily heat-formed expanded PVC (Sintra/Komatex), and most of…

Deadpool Shows Off What Hasbro Can Do With 12 Inches

My photoshoot of Hasbro’s Marvel Legends 12-inch Deadpool figure might have gotten away from me, but the point stands—Hasbro has really gotten a handle on 12-inch figures. During the heyday of my Marvel action figure collecting it wasn’t Hasbro making Wolverine, Iron Man and Thor action figures, but rather ToyBiz, progenitors of the Marvel Legends…

It Stinks That Nobody Talks In Diablo III‘s Public Multiplayer

In Diablo III, a good deal of high level play revolves around entering farming runs with random strangers and marching through content to try and get the most items and gear in the shortest amount of time. It’s fun, but it’s disappointing that it seems to exist in a cone of silence. You can easily…

Blizzard Cracks Down On Overwatch Ties, Polarizes Fans

Draws are the bane of competitive Overwatch players’ existence. All that work, and instead of the sweet taste of victory or the bitter agony of defeat, you get the sour milk breath of anticlimax. Late last week, Blizzard took the first steps to fix that. Some players, though, think they might have gone too far.…

Typeshift’s developer, Zach Gage of Spelltower and Really Bad Chess fame, says that this game is part of his “pseudo-quest to re-imagine classic newspaper…

The Crowd Went Wild For Hatsune Miku, The Virtual Anime Pop Star

I’ve seen a massive crowd line up around the block to watch an internet-fueled hologram of an anime girl sing. I’ve seen a packed auditorium erupt into a wild cheer for a text-to-speech voice that said: “Hello Seattle.” I’ve seen our present day, in all its bracing cyberpunk wonder, at Hatsune Miku’s live concert at…
