R.E.P.O. is an online survival horror game that is physics-, sound-, and teamwork-based. You and as many as five others venture into deserted and unfriendly areas where the human race has failed. These ruins are littered with strange objects and dangerous creatures. Rather than having to face monsters in a direct fight, you explore ruined halls and play with a physics-based tool for grabbing valuable things. Nearly all things you touch act as they would in the real world: heavy items push you off balance, delicate items crack when you bump them, and loud drops may bring undesirable attention. It is clumsy with movement, and this produces tension and humor simultaneously.

The robots in the game can be upgraded if you carry sufficient salvage. Every run is then a little risk-versus-payoff choice: take the extra time and get a bigger payoff, or get away before your awkward movement attracts the attention of something in the shadow. The enemies also obey the laws of physics—objects drop, shatter, and are hurled.
