In a genuinely surprising reveal at Blizzcon’s opening ceremonies today, we got a tease for Diablo 5, of all things. It’s still very far away, not coming until spring 2029, but it will feature the return of the man himself: Diablo.
The teaser showed a brief glimpse of the hellscape that is Diablo 5. The game is set a whole century after Diablo 4, at a time when Sanctuary has fallen, and players must battle through effectively a post-apocalypse.
That’s all we know about Diablo 5 for now, but in the meantime, Diablo 4 is getting some updates. There’s a class pack coming in the first half of 2027 that will add the Amazon class to the game. The Amazon was in the spotlight during the recent Lord of Hatred expansion, and focuses on fast movement and use of a bow and a new weapon: the javelin.
The next season of the game is entitled Hell’s Legacy, and will be a celebration of the game’s history. We’ll see the return of old enemies and other elements from Diablo games of yore, starting on Tuesday, September 15. This will include the return of old friend Deckard Cain (RIP), and others such as Mephisto and, yeah, obviously, Diablo.
Finally, Blizzard announced (after everyone basically already knew it was happening) that it would be bringing the Diablo: Age of Hatred collection (including Diablo 4 and both expansions) to Nintendo Switch 2 on September 15 with the Season of Hell’s Legacy. A demo of this is on the show floor at Blizzcon.
