What Are You Playing This Weekend?

The weekend is for needing to run four more miles by Sunday to meet the goal my running app set for me, because arbitrary goals are very satisfying. Also, video games. I haven’t been as excited by We Happy Few as I hoped I’d be, but I’m going to keep giving it a shot. I’m…

We Happy Few Has An Ambitious Mix That I’m Having Trouble Getting Into

Mixing survival gameplay with a narrative is always a tough task for developers, but it’s one the creators of We Happy Few takes on. I’m 10 hours into their game, which is out today for Xbox One, PS4 and PC, and I’m both charmed and frustrated. The writing is excellent, and the visuals are spectacular,…

Minit is out on Nintendo Switch today. Check out our impressions from the PC launch back in March in the video above.

I Love When An Intense Game Forces Me To Take A Break

I’m a sucker for Flat Heroes’ simple look and how good it feels to bounce around putting off death, but my favorite part of this minimalist Switch platformer is the moment before the levels actually start. Flat Heroes claims to have over 300 levels, though I’m still in the first of its 10 worlds. Each…

Fortnite’s patch 5.20 is out. It brings a new weapon, the double barrel shotgun; rebalanced vending machines; and a new limited time mode, Steady Storm, in which the storm never stops moving. Check out the full patch notes to see all the changes

What Are You Playing This Weekend?

The weekend is for going to the botanical garden near my house to admire all the cool plants I would probably kill if I owned them. Also, video games. I bought Battle Chef Brigade a few weeks ago when I was thinking about cooking but didn’t have any food in the house. I got a…

Mafia III Headlines August’s PlayStation Plus Lineup

I’ve been meaning to play Mafia III since it came out, and now that it’s one of August’s PlayStation Plus games, I might finally do it. As ever, these games are only “free” if you have an active PlayStation Plus subscription. August’s PlayStation Plus games are: PlayStation 4 Mafia III Dead by Daylight PlayStation 3…

What Are You Playing This Weekend?

My young niece is visiting this weekend, and I’m really excited to introduce her to a ton of cool games she can then annoy her mom by asking for. What should they be? My sister bought her kids an Xbox a while back, but it’s hard to find games four kids of vastly different ages…

Vampyr will get two new modes “later this summer.” Story mode will emphasize narrative, while hard mode will make the game’s fights “much more difficult.” I thought Vampyr would be great with less combat, so I’m excited to check out these changes when they’re live

For Honor Headlines August’s Xbox Live Games With Gold

August’s Xbox Live Games with Gold is pretty good this month. It features a few games I keep meaning to check out, like For Honor and Dead Space 3. As always, these games are only “free” if you have an active Xbox Live Gold subscription. August’s Xbox Live Games With Gold are: Xbox One Forza…

The weekend is for trying to make my apartment look super cool so my niece is really impressed when she and my sister come to visit next week. It’s also for playing video games Last weekend I played Fortnite with a friend of mine for the first time. We barricaded ourselves in a cave, built…

The Unexpected Difficulty Of Choosing Who To Play As In Hunting Simulator

I’ve always been curious about hunting sims, mostly because I want to vicariously wander around the woods. I’m excited to check a recent one that just got ported to the Switch, but right now I can’t decide which character to pick. Hunting Simulator launched for consoles and PC last year and arrived on Switch last…

The weekend is for making the heck out of this slow cooker peach cobbler from our excellent sister site The Takeout. Using the slow cooker means you can bake and play video games at the same time! I really need to make more progress in Hollow Knight, even though I am wretched at boss battles. I…

The Long Dark‘s New Cooking System Is Too Real

Last month, snowy survival game The Long Dark got a new cooking system. Like in real life, it requires timing things just right. I couldn’t pull it off in my last game, as well as in most of my own home cooking. The Long Dark added manual cooking in its June update. While you used…
