Goofy Dad Recreates Final Fantasy VII Summons With His Butt

My five-year-old daughter, just now: “I like it when he was shaking his tush-tush.” Papa Luciano is at it again. After hilarious turns making his body a vessel for Smash Bros.’ taunts and Street Fighter victory poses, the middle-aged man is interpreting the summons from the beloved JRPG. You will believe a man can chocobo,…

When Cosplay Saved Doctor Doom’s Life

Frank Castle was cruising through New York City looking for criminals to kill, as he does. Hey, look, it’s the Supreme Monarch of Latveria! Time for some punishment! Or is it? The current storyline in Squirrel Girl has the title character stuck in the past trying to foil the world-conquering machinations of Dr. Doom. (This…

Street Fighter V: The Kotaku Review

Playing Street Fighter V at launch feels like being at a construction site where the foundation is being poured. The structure we’ll eventually all recognize isn’t there yet. But if the foundation is cracked or uneven, that future architecture won’t work as intended. So far, the bedrock of Street Fighter’s evolution feels mostly solid, if…

Check Out R. Mika’s Backstory In Street Fighter V‘s Story Mode

The version of Street Fighter V that comes out tomorrow isn’t packing a full-fledged story mode. That’s coming later. But the plot-driven vignettes available on launch are still enough to get players to like or loathe some of the game’s cast. Some people think fighting games don’t need story modes. I’m not one of them.…

The Punisher Makes the Man Without Fear Bleed in First Full Trailer for Daredevil Season Two

Daredevil hurts bad guys very badly but lets them live. That’s not good enough for Frank Castle. The sophomore season of Netflix’s series about Marvel’s blind ninja lawyer sets up the core conflicts that will plague Matt Murdock this season and includes snippets from the Punisher’s origin sequence. A certain ex-girlfriend of Matt’s shows up,…

Marvel’s Obi-Wan & Anakin Star Wars Comic Is Pretty Pointless

Obi-Wan & Anakin is the first real dud of Marvel’s series of new Star Wars comics. Most of Marvel’s new Star Wars stories have focused on the time period between Episode IV and V of the film’s sci-fi universe. Last month saw the debut of Obi-Wan & Anakin, a miniseries that shows the two men…

What We Liked (And Didn’t Like) About the Deadpool Movie

For years, it seemed like a Deadpool movie was never going to happen. Fans of Wade Wilson’s manically goofy ultraviolence would have to content themselves with the terrible version of the character from the first Wolverine movie. But then, like a chimichanga descending from heaven, Deadpool actually made it through the Tinseltown gauntlet to the…

Tongue-Fighting Game Smooth Operator Teaches How Not To Kiss

French kissing is great as long as you don’t think about it too much. Because the worst euphemism about first base is totally true: you’re swapping spit with another human being. Smooth Operator puts that gross reality all up in your face. Out this week on iOS from Beardo Games, Smooth Operator is a game…

The New Powerpuff Girls Aren’t Taking Any Crap

Samurai Jack’s on his way back to TV. So are the Powerpuff Girls. Don’t dare use the p-word around Townsville’s cute crimefighters, though. Contact the author at [email protected]

The New Wolverine Doesn’t Care About Her Own Pain and That’s a Problem

Laura Kinney isn’t as unhinged as the alternate reality version of the man she was cloned from. She’s not killing dudes before they actually do anything wrong. No, the woman who’s slashing bad guys up as Wolverine has a different psychological tic: she keeps throwing herself into danger without a care. This week’s All-New X-Men…

Alfred Will Cook Your Ass, Michelangelo

Batman’s butler hates it when people sneak into the Cave. Like, a lot. The third issue of Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles—written by James Tynion IV, with art by Freddie Williams III, Jeremy Colwell and Tom Napolitano—is out today, featuring a tense meeting between the title characters. Based on the title alone, this series may sound…

Batman Gets An Even Sadder Origin Story This Week

Bruce Wayne isn’t a real person anymore. He was, for a few short months. In that time, the man orphaned by crime was someone who laughed, loved and let people in. But now, he’s gone back to just being a daytime mask for the Batman to wear. Wave goodbye to the Bruce-beard, everybody. One of…

One Comic That Explains Why Superheroes Didn’t Just Immediately Win World War II

The first time I read All-Star Squadron #20, somewhere in my pre-teens, it blew me away. There it was, the answer to the question I didn’t even know I had: how come superheroes don’t just fix everything? Reading All-Star Squadron was like getting an undergraduate degree in comics history. Written by Roy Thomas with art…

Jughead #4 comes out this week and, via preview at Comic Book Resources, it’s got a little detail that nudges along the modern-day re-inventionof the classic high-school characters even further. Mild spoilers follow. In an…
