Gotham City’s Newest Joker Is an 18-Year-Old Kid

The newest Clown Prince of Crime in Batman’s hometown isn’t insane. He didn’t fall into a vat of chemicals. Honestly, he’s just kind of a dick. That’s what’s most scary about him. For the better part of the last year, Gotham City’s been recovering from a near-extinction-level attack by the Joker. The climax of that…

Rise of The Tomb Raider’s DLC Is The Good Kind Of Short

The latest large-scale Lara Croft adventure has has a bit of DLC already. But last month’s Endurance Mode add-on didn’t offer up the kind of strong storytelling found in Rise of the Tomb Raider’s main campaign. Baba Yaga: The Temple of the Witch is a new extra chapter that aims to do exactly that. Out…

Star Wars: Battlefront Finally Getting New DLC This Week

When Star Wars: Battlefront came out last November, both critics and players noted that the number of vehicles, maps and modes in the first-person shooter came off as a little underweight when compared to similar full-priced games. EA promised that there’d be more stuff to do and play in Battlefront but the additional offerings seem…

Mortal Kombat X’s New Tri-Borg Is Really Four Robots in One

One of the new characters coming to Mortal Kombat X is an amalgam of three man-machine characters from the fighting game franchise’s history. But it turns out that there’s another robot ninja lurking inside that chassis. One who makes things a whole lot cooler. During the Season 2 Finals of competitive gaming promotion ESL, fans…

Series creator Toshihiro Nagoshi showed off some Yakuza 6 gameplay on a Sega stream last night. The upcoming installment of the under-appreciated series is a PS4 exclusive due out this fall in Japan. Who knows when it’ll get a western release? Contact the author at [email protected]

In Nowhere Men, Scientists Are the New Pop Idols

Rock and roll and science are commonly thought of as polar opposites: one sexy and dangerous, the other nerdy and inscrutable. But a great comic-book series imagines that the world would be a million times cooler if the two were one and the same. Originally published 1/22/16 Nowhere Men is a post-Steve Jobs comic. It…

Bruce Wayne Doesn’t Want to Be Batman Again

Last month, Bruce Wayne—who came back from the dead with no memory of his former life as a superhero— found out he used to be Batman. This week, we see how he comes to grips with what that means. Originally published 1/22/16 Since last summer, Gotham City’s been under the protection of a new Dark…

Westport Independent Is An Intense Game About Censoring The News

The name’s Narcisse. Yeah, numbnuts, I’ve heard all the jokes. I’m a newspaperman. No matter how hard I try every night, I can’t scrub the newsprint off my palms. Problem is, the bastard politicians running Westport are threatening to add bloodstains to all that ink. Out today from indie studio Double Zero One Zero for…

Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime—the cute but frantic spaceship action game that came out last year on PC and Xbox One—will be hitting the PS4 on February 9. You can play it solo with an AI pet but, trust me, you really want a real person as a co-pilot. No offense, space-dog and space-cats. Contact…

The Best Silver Surfer Series Comes Back This Week

The Silver Surfer is one of those superheroes who’s always looked cooler than he actually was. The character’s visuals point to an ideal of unfettered freedom and navigating the cosmos with a slick, frictionless ease. But, in the main, the actual stories featuring the former herald of Galactus have had him weighed down by guilt…

Out on March 1, Mortal Kombat XL is a new version of last year’s hit fighting game that bundles together the core game and all of the DLC released so far. It’ll include the characters coming with Kombat Pack 2, so it stands to reason that the add-on will be out on or before MKXL’s…

The Original Captain America Is Coming Back

Right now, there’s only one Captain America flying through the skies of Marvel’s mainline comic-book universe. But later this year, the original super-soldier will be back in the red-white-and-blue. And don’t worry about current shield-wielder Sam Wilson; he’ll sticking around. That’s right: two Caps at the same time. Tonight’s news coincided with a TV special…

Arkham Knight’s Best DLC Moment Gives Batman an Impossible Choice

I saved the Ra’s Al Ghul mission in Arkham Knight’s Season of Infamy expansion because I had high expectations. My reward was one of the best moments from any Batman video game. I never believed that Batman would kill the Joker. However, I’ve always believed that, under the right circumstances, Batman would kill Ra’s Al…

My Favorite Comics Moments of 2015

Lots of things got shaken up in the comics I enjoyed from the last twelve months, with characters and themes getting re-invented, resurrected and repurposed in surprising or clever ways. Here’s what I’ll remember from the comics I read in 2015. Spoilers follow. A Superman who can’t fly. A female Wolverine. An Archie who isn’t…

Far Cry Primal’s Gonna Get Pretty Raw

We’ve already seen that the main guy in Far Cry Primal will be pretty chill with animals, taming and commanding them after suppressing their whole eat-the-human instinct. But lead character Takkar will have some gnarlier interactions with his fellow humans. As in “ears cut off and kept as trophies.” According to the game’s ESRB listing,…

Fanmade Halo 5 Map Pays Homage To Metroid Prime

It’s anybody’s guess as to when Nintendo’s going to roll out a new Metroid game that stars Samus Aran. So, one enterprising player used Microsoft’s first-person shooter to craft a tribute to the House of Mario’s iconic space bounty hunter. On his YouTube channel, 0mni42 shows off a Forge Map he calls Primus, complete with…
