Jesus, didn't we just get done with the NHL? I did a little bit of checking and, yep, of the major team simulations, it has the shortest span between crowning its champion and the release of its next video game.
Chicago's Blackhawks (figuring in all but three of these 15 screens that EA Sports released) won the Stanley Cup on June 9. NHL 11 (and NHL 2K11 for the Wii) will release on Sept. 7. That's a hair less than three months, easily the shortest span.
The others? The NBA Finals wrapped up one week ago (June 17) and have an Oct. 5 release date for NBA 2K11 and NBA Elite 11, a shade over 15 weeks. Major League Baseball crowned the Yankees on Nov. 4 and was out on March 2, just two days under four months. The BCS National Championship game was decided Jan. 7 and NCAA Football 11 releases on July 14, just over six months. Madden NFL 11 will also come out a hair more than six months (Aug. 10) after Super Bowl XLIV (Feb. 7).
What's the longest span between deciding a world champion and the next video game? That looks like soccer; the World Cup concludes July 11. 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil will probably be out on April 29, 2014. Probably Move- and Kinect-Enabled, in 3D, and available for download for a $39.99 six month subscription or $69.99 for a year.
Meantime, enjoy these screenshots.
