Mortal Kombat fan site Mortal Kombat Online are claiming that this image (click for bigger version), supplied to them by "a source within Midway", is the first piece of official art from the next Mortal Kombat game. And yeah, as you can guess from the miserable, hulking guy on the right, it'll be a Mortal Kombat vs DC game. Out of love for the DC universe, I'm trying to both accept this is real and be excited about it, but...firstly, there hasn't been a decent Mortal Kombat game in over ten years, and second...hey guys, Capcom did this a little while ago. With Marvel. You may have heard of it. Little late to the comics crossover party, aren't we?

Honestly? No, it's NOT too late for this. It's NEVER too late.
@MarshmallowMark: Agreed. Never too late.
Oh, my brains.
Not to set the tone for this post so early, but...how the FUCK are you supposed to fight Superman?
@Luke Plunkett: Valid point, but Superman's a douche anyways.
@Luke Plunkett: Kryptonite
My only question is how will DC ever let this fly? DC comics, for the most part, have never been gory. I can't imagine they would EVER let Batman be decapitated, let alone by a character whose not even of their stable.
This is why I'm calling shenanigans.
I'd hit it. I'd hit it a lot.
Sounds like bullshit to me, but on the off-chance that it's real, I'm going to go ahead and shit myself at the thought of ripping Superman's head off.
O_O this made me jizz myself
If this gets made and MvC3 doesn't, I'll destroy the world.
Superman will win
How the fuck are they gonna do fatalities for some DC characters, that's what I want to know.
Wow. This could be absolutely incredible or a steaming pile of trash.
I'm not sure if my suspension of disbelief can be stretched to cover beating up superman. I'm still trying to accept that voldo can parry a blow from yoda.
BATMAN FTW
D: Unless all the mortal kombat dudes have kryptonite... everything (clothes, glasses, skin), superman better be essentially a one button instant win.
I'm trying to contain my potential excitement here by noting this:
If this is done right, it could be magnificent. If it's done badly (like recent MK games) then it'll be a damn shame... assuming, of course, that this is legit.
@Luke Plunkett:
With Batman, of course. Who else?
@cornunderscore2x:I'll help.
I don't think MK would do crossovers well. I can't imagine ripping Batman's head off, or cutting the Flash's throat as Baraka.
I don't think this will play well with the fighting style of MK. If it were along the lines of MvC2 then yes, but I just might bite.
ALso if no one has seen this it's the new batman that's going to be the prequel to the Dark Knight
+ Watch video
If they make it 2D and don't include that stupid campaign where you run around and do stupid errands like finding the bully of the street and taking his pokemanz to unlock chars then ... well... no it's probably still going to suck.
I can't Imagen how this would work at all... but if they do make it work it will be pretty sweet.
By the way, link is broken.
Batman has one hell of a chin.
@MarshmallowMark: i will second your shenanigans call out. none (well, almost none) of the things done to eachother in mortal kombat could/would be done to a charater from the DC universe (there are exeptions, but i won't get into that). either way though, that icture would make one hell of a cover art for a new cross over comic...
Also, didn't they say that MK8 would be a reset of the series, with a more serious tone?
@MarshmallowMark:
You're 100% right. You can't decapitate Batman. It won't happen. I love this idea. I love it a lot. Of course, I'd love it a lot more if it was a half way decent fighting game built around the cross over, rather than Mortal Kombat. But it's still cool, and I'll still buy it. But it isn't real.

old news?
PS plunkett, get the word out to travelers' tales... if midway are really this aimless (and it seems they have to be, right? they make armageddon all 'end of an era' to clear the way for... this?) then it's the perfect time to move on Lego Mortal Kombat: The Videogame Videogame.
Not a decent MK game in over ten years? Did you ever play Shaolin Monks? Sure it's gameplay was a tad repetitive at times, but it's fighting engine was solid. By far one of better action beat em' ups to be release in the last three years. Much better than the last two MK titles.
@ShaggE:
"I'm going to go ahead and shit myself at the thought of ripping Superman's head off."
Oh god....
I think I came.
I checked out the website URL in the image. www.worldscollide.com Goes to a Fedora/Apache page, interesting enough. A whois on it results in: Holland and Hart, seems like it's a squatter to me.
I deem this a fake unless someone wants to delve into it a bit more and see if Holland and Hart is something other than domain squatters.
I cannot imagine how cool this could be.
Oh god i hope not. Unless starman is in it, I'd get a kick out of beating characters with my cosmic rod.
@Luke Plunkett: Jeeze obviously in the Outland there won't be a yellow sun and Superman will be slowly losing his powers. Like duh.
Scorpion versus Batman? Hmmm... That won't end well.
I wonder what it would take to make Mortal Kombat relevant again. I'm not sure but it definitely ain't waggle!
I'm not too sure that I believe this, but I really hope it's true. I'll admit that recent Mortal Kombat games have pretty much sucked(I thought Deception was good though), but I grew up on Mortal Kombat games and Batman is my favorite super hero. Not only that, but recently I've gotten into watching reruns of Justice League on Youtube. So this game will be awesome for so many reasons, if it's real.
If the mortal characters can fight Raiden, who is an immortal god, then I don't see why they can't fight Superman.
If this is real, playing as Doomsday would be awesome and an excellent counter to Superman
1. There have been good mortal kombat games in the last ten years.
2. God please let this be real.
I have been a fan of the Mortal Kombat franchise since the beginning, but I have to admit that the series has taken a slide since MK4.
I realise I haven't played this title yet, but just the concept makes my stomach turn.
Haven't played an MK game since Trilogy on the N64. Haven't OWNED an MK game since MK3 on the SNES...
I don't see this being much different. Don't care much about DC (or comics in general). And fighting games... I need more casual fighting. Like Smash Bros. That's all I need.
But interesting combination to say the least. If true.
oh and by the way, the site indicated on the teaser image (worldscollide.com) is empty. it exists, but there's nothing there but an apache front end. so not saying it's fake, but if this is genuine, why'd they leak the image before they uploaded anything to the site?
blood, yeah
Batman cannot get decapitated. Ever. This game is an abomination.
And does sound rather cool. If nothing else, that picture needs to get made into a wallpaper without any of the logos. Hopefully whoever made it will reveal himself, and/or this is real and the wallpaper happens.
Whoaly shit, that would actually be pretty cool. I always liked Marvel vs Capcom so MK vs DC should be kickass
@Makidian: Where's the fun in that? I want my MK characters smacking Clark Kent's smug ass around. Doomsday is SO 1993.
Games do tend to take liberties. There was a god-awful Justice League fighting game for the SNES that potentially pit Superman vs. Batman. I don't see why Superman can't take on some of the ridiculous characters in the MK franchise.
Hell, if Voldo can get stabbed by a lightsaber 20 times and live to tell about it, I don't see why Superman is getting so much flack about being in a fighter.
SUB-ZERO VS MR.FREEZE wooooooo
THIS IS WHY WE CAN'T HAVE NICE THINGS. FUCK.
uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh i don't know if i should be happy or very very very scared.
@okenny :): Sell it with a SNES controller(primarily the d-pad is needed)for current gen systems.
Green Lantern wins. FRIENDSHIP. Friendship?
what a sad sad day in gaming news this topped off. mk is way too ridiculous to be crossed over with anything. except maybe with the keebler elves, that would prove an entertaining deathmatch.
I think Thrill Kill vs. Mortal Kombat woulda been splendid.
MK woulda totally got rocked though.
+ Watch video
Speaking of MK, I'm still waiting for a proper movie... To this day I grow ill at the thought of the sheer awfulness of MK: Annihilation.
And don't even get me started on the TV show and stage show.
This is an awfully smart move on Midway's part, if true. Mortal Kombat has been on the peripherary of societal consciousness for a long time now. This could build some much needed hype, and really regenerate their franchise. That said, once again, this can not be true. But it'd be amazing,
I feel bad for the MK team if this ends up being a rumor. Everyone's going to get all hyped over the idea of an MK Vs. DC game, and then if the next MK game ends up being just another MK game everyone will be disappointed and not buy it.
Batman, Raiden
Superman, Shang Tsung
Sonya Blade, Catwoman
The possibilities are endless.
A little obscure, sure. But why not?
Hmm, I haven't cared about Mortal Kombat since MK2, but I do like DC comics. Though to be honest, I wout rather see another Marvel vs. Capcom sequel (Yes, I know it isn't going to happen.) since I care about Marvel comics and Capcom games allot more than I do Midway games and DC comics.
If this is the real deal, I'm up for it. Doomsday better be included or something is completely wrong.
@rasutoibuki: a quick search pulls up a national law firm based in colorado. they do have a separate entity dealing in intellectual property law, specifically, and that entity has offices in many different parts of the country. so I suppose midway could've arranged for their IP lawyers to pick up the domain? maybe?
It is too late. Mortal Kombat is going to blow unless they scrap the "new" slow-ass fighting system, and bring back the fast paced MK3 action. I haven't really enjoyed a Mortal Kombat game since. Tossing in Batman is not going to fix that.
If the combat is fixed, I'll buy this faster than you can say "Clichèd joke"
@MarshmallowMark:
Didn't you hear? DC's struck a deal with Epic in which they'll be making a Gears of War comic series.
I just want to know if I can I tell Wonder Woman to "Get over here" and then rip out her spine or smash Hulk with Liu Kangs Mortal Kombat 3 arcade.
Hasn't been a decent MK game in 10 years? Ah come on MK Deadly Alliance, Deception and Armageddon was at least decent. Some may even say that Deception was great.
