Xbox has announced it is delaying its upcoming Fable reboot into February of 2027, allegedly to make room for all its other games.
In a post on social media, the official Xbox account cited Halo: Campaign Evolved, Gears of War: E-Day, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, Control Resonant, Star Wars: Galactic Racer, and Grand Theft Auto 6 as major releases throughout 2026. It’s perhaps worth noting that Halo, Gears, and Call of Duty do not have release dates yet and Xbox is in full control of when those come out. Control, a third-party game, also doesn’t have a release date, though Star Wars and GTA 6 do, in October and November, respectively.
“In order to plan our game launches through the holidays, in a way that works best for players, we’re moving Fable to February 2027 so it can have the dedicated moment it deserves. We’re excited to be giving players a major new look at Fable, as well as our broader lineup, at XBOX Games Showcase on June 7.”

Fable was originally revealed way back in 2020, albeit with no release window to speak of then. We’ve since gotten more detail on the game in various Xbox showcases, learning that it’s once again a third-person action RPG set in the fantasy world of Albion where the player begins as a young child and grows into a hero. Also as with past games, it will feature a morality system, through which characters and the world will react to you differently based on whether you’re behaving well or poorly—though unlike in previous games, different actions may be regarded differently by different people. (An evil bastard may approve of your cruelty to others, for instance.) You can get married, own a house, make friends and enemies, and get up to all sorts of other shenanigans.
In 2024, Xbox announced that Fable would release in 2025, but that year it was moved to 2026, and then narrowed to the fall of 2026. Now, we’re into February of 2027, with a promised “major” appearance at the Xbox Showcase taking place on June 7. Whenever it comes out, it’s planned for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, and will be available on Game Pass right at launch.
Update: 5/29/26, 1:00 p.m. ET: In a newly published interview on Xbox’s YouTube channel, Xbox Game Studios head Matt Booty spoke about the decision to delay Fable, stating:
We talked about Forza Horizon 6 and how the team at Playground is doing really well. Also doing really well on Fable. The game is in great shape. The team feels really good. We’re excited about where the game is. We want to make sure that that game has a window all to its own, so we are going to move it from this fall to February.
And again, we really just want it to have its own moment to shine. And related to Fable, we will be seeing more of it in the showcase. So we’re going to have plenty for people to see. It really is coming together well, exciting stuff, and then we’re going to move to February.
