With players dancing their way out of trouble in BioWare's Star Wars: The Old Republic, commenter Raso719 wonders what's the big deal about taking advantage of sloppy programming to gain an advantage in today's Speak Up on Kotaku.
Back in Star Wars Galaxy me and a friend use to kill level 80 Krayt Dragon as a level 40-something commando with the help of my level 40-something Jedi friend. The XP was amazing.
If I did this in Star Wars: The Old Republic I would probably be banned.
Either BioWare or EA (or BioWare under direct order from EA) are apparently banning people for doing what people do best: exploit holes in the system to gain an advantage from it.
Look, if some ass hole in Battlefield can snipe from the top of a UAV and not be banned I don't see what's wrong with this. I mean what ever happened to all that BS that if the game lets you do it then you should be able to do it?
(Editor's Note: Andrew Wong of EA contacted Kotaku to clarify that no action has been taken against players utilizing the /getdown bug. "We can assure you no players have been banned, suspended or even warned in regards to the "/getdown" bug.")
About Speak Up on Kotaku: Our readers have a lot to say, and sometimes what they have to say has nothing to do with the stories we run. That's why we have a forum on Kotaku called Speak Up. That's the place to post anecdotes, photos, game tips and hints, and anything you want to share with Kotaku at large. Every weekday we'll pull one of the best Speak Up posts we can find and highlight it here.
