One of last year’s Summer Game Fest surprises is getting delayed. Lego Arcanine looks rad. And Cyclops has never been cooler than in Marvel Cosmic Invasion. It’s Kotaku‘s Checkpoint roundup for May 18, 2026, where I’m looking forward to all of Mina the Hollower‘s custom difficulty settings and game modes, including one that turns the floor into lava. In the meantime, I’m tempted to dip back into The Witcher 3 after only just learning about the game’s creative approach to preventing players from abusing a cowhide-farming exploit.

One of last year’s Summer Game Fest reveals overhauls its plans a year later

Into the Unwell made a splash during last year’s showcase with its old-timey cartoon art style reminiscent of Cuphead, off-beat humor, and 3D roguelite action. “The coolest announcement imo,” reads the top YouTube comment. The “rubber hose fuelled fever dream” was supposed to come to Steam in Early Access sometime in 2026. Indie team She Was Such A Good Horse now says that’s no longer the case. They “unannounced” the game’s launch plans with a song.

“They’re giving us more money and we’re finishing the whole game now basically,” one member of the team said during the musical announcement. The publisher in this case is Coffee Stain of Goat Simulator fame, and the team said one reason for the extension is the positive user feedback from early testing. The move might also reflect changing trends around Early Access.

Unless you’re Subnuatica 2, some teams are finding that players treat Early Access the same as a full launch, and judge a game accordingly. Better to put forward the best version of your game from the jump than something that disappoints at first and then never recovers. “Aaaahhhhh we wanted to play Into The Unwell before gta 6666666!!!!!” wrote one fan. “ajasdkjfaksdfj (MAYBE we can.. maybe gta 6 releases in 2029..)”

An unfinished cutscene from MIA KOTOR remake has reportedly surfaced

Mp1st uncovered an in-development cutscene from the game Aspyr was working on before it was reportedly rebooted by Saber Interactive. It shows dialogue and blocking for an early scene featuring Captain Carth Onasi and Trask Ulgo. It indicated a voiced protagonist, a departure from the original game in which they were silent. This Aspyr version of the game was also rumored to have combat similar to that in Final Fantasy VII Remake. All of this was likely scrapped in the reboot.

The PokĂ©mon Lego set for Arcanine leaked…

And he looks glorious. It’s $110 for 1,190 pieces and it launches August 1, according to Brick Clicker.

Marathon skins for season 2 may have leaked and they look much better

I have not been very impressed with the season 1 skins, despite being on the lookout for stuff to give Bungie money for in my favorite game of the year so far. Some apparently leaked skin concept art for season 2 looks much more promising.

Marvel Cosmic Invasion gets two new characters

The Thing and Cyclops are both coming to last year’s retro arcade brawler today. This first DLC is $4, followed by a second content update in the fall. The game’s currently available to access as part of a paid Game Pass subscription. Most importantly, Cyclops is wearing his cool jacket.

Remake and port juggernaut Virtuos would love to work on bringing GTA 5 to Switch

Technical director Andy Fong told Pocket Tactics that the “team is eager to adapt Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 for the Nintendo Switch. We’re personally big fans and believe these games can shine again on the Switch, delighting even more players.” He was reflecting on the studio’s work bringing L.A. Noire to the console back in 2017.
