Can a new Forza Horizon competitor deliver some of the breezy spectacle that may have been missing from the latest entry? How come it took Fallout 76 so long to get a PS5 and Xbox Series X/S version? What will make one of the characters in the new Silent Hill drop an F-bomb? It’s yourĀ Kotaku Checkpoint roundup for June 2, 2026, where we are still finding catharsis in yesterday’s 60 Minutes town hall meltdown. But onto more fun things.

Let’s remember some of the coolest SNES-era save spots:

Fallout 76 is about to look prettier on Xbox Series X than PS5

Bethesda announced the very long-awaited next-gen upgrade for the survival MMO on Tuesday and the specs include up to 4K resolution on Xbox Series X, but only up to 1440p on PS5 and PS5 Pro. Weird! Still no word on when we’re getting cross-play.

“Available to everyone who owns Fallout 76,” Bethesda wrote today. “You will be able to download the Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 test versions from the Xbox and PlayStation Stores. Once testing is completed, we plan on releasing the update later this summer!”

Resident Evil might go to Japan in the future

“I think that every Japanese Resident Evil fan has definitely thought about a Japan setting, and I’ve also considered it myself,” Resident Evil Requiem producer Masato Kumazawa said in an interview with Futaman (translated by IGN). “As the series is primarily developed by staff in Japan, I think everyone on the dev team has probably thought about it. Even though Japan hasn’t appeared as a setting for the games yet, I think it might at some point in the future.”

There’s a new open-world racing game

It’s called Clutch and it’s the debut project from formerĀ ForzaĀ Horizon creative directorĀ Mike Brown. Per VGC, the game features a story written by Skins co-creator Jamie Brittain and will focus on a pair of siblings competing in a prestigious racing series and a collective of car enthusiasts called the Midnight Club. It’s being made in Unreal Engine 5 with a focus on showing off the unique details of each car.

Hell Let Loose: Vietnam has been delayed

The 50v50 multiplayer shooter was supposed to arrive this month. It’ll be out August 13 instead. “We want Hell Let Loose: Vietnam to deliver the best possible experience for players on both PC and console. Following intensive internal testing, coupled with the open beta feedback, we’ve identified several areas where additional development time will allow us to deliver a stronger launch experience,” the developers wrote in a new blog post.

StarCraft 2 just became “essentially a new game”

That’s according to some players who were testing out the recent new patch for Blizzard’s RTS (via GameSpot). Update 5.0.16 includes significant updates to the game’s units and economy, as well as quality-of-life improvements. Who needs StarCraft 3, right?

Silent Hill: Townfall features an F-bomb

“The word ā€œf**kā€ is heard in the game.” That little detail was leaked in the ESRB age ratingĀ for the upcoming horror spin-off. It’s believed to be a PS5 exclusive. Maybe it’ll be at one of this week’s showcases.
