Ubisoft teams with developer Eugen Systems to create R.U.S.E., an innovative real-time strategy title where deception is the key to victory.

R.U.S.E., built by Act of War: Direct Action developer Eugen, promises to reinvigorate the real-time strategy genre by adding the element of bluffing, allowing players to fake out their opponents as they battle it out on expansive, highly detailed maps. Unfortunately the official announcement focuses more on the game's presence at the Game Developers Conference and how well the game will run on Intel processors than gameplay, so how exactly the whole deception system is implemented remains to be seen.

For now we have a single screenshot, and the promise of innovative gameplay and smooth shifting from overhead to action view using a new IRISZOOM Engine, which Ubisoft VP of sales and marketing touches on briefly.

"With R.U.S.E., Ubisoft is once again shaking up a genre, offering an RTS with a twist that will thrill gamers," said Tony Key, senior vice president of sales and marketing at Ubisoft. "Ubisoft is known for innovation and R.U.S.E. continues that tradition, offering the most immense and detailed maps ever seen in an RTS. Players can explore the maps using IRISZOOM Engine, which provides an aerial, smooth interaction unlike anything ever seen before."

R.U.S.E. iscurrently under development for the PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360, with a planned release sometime during fiscal year 2009/2010. Hopefully we'll learn more about the game before the end of GDC.
