Ubisoft has announced that Assassinâs Creed Shadows has been delayed again. The open-world stealth game was set to arrive in February following its initial delay in September 2024, but now it wonât launch until March 20.
Assassinâs Creed Shadows was formally announced in May 2024, and was intended to arrive last year in November. The next entry in Ubisoftâs popular and long-running series, Shadows takes the Assassinâs Creed formula to Japan, a location fans have wanted for years. It also has two playable protagonists, a feature last seen in 2015’s Assassinâs Creed Syndicate. However, one of these charactersâfamous Black samurai Yasukeâwas at the center of a manufactured controversy among parts of the internet over his race and depiction in the game.
There were also legitimate concerns about how the game looked and played in previews, and following the mixed reception to Star Wars Outlaws last year, Ubisoft announced an uncharateristic delay for the franchise, pushing Assassinâs Creed Shadows back from November 2024 to February 2025 to provide the devs with more time to improve the game. And now itâs been delayed again.

On January 9, Ubisoft announced Shadows would now release on March 20, 2025. In a statement posted online, Ubisoft says that it believes these âfew additional weeksâ are necessary to implement fan feedback and âensure an even more ambitious and engaging day-one experience.â
âWe remain committed to delivering a high-quality, immersive experienceâfostered by ongoing dialogue between our players and development teams,â said Ubisoft. âWe know youâre eager to learn more about Assassinâs Creed Shadows, and weâre excited to share that more updates will be coming your way very soon!â
Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier further added that Ubisoft says its looking at âvarious transformational strategic and capitalistic options to extract the best value for stakeholders,â aka itâs looking for someone to buy them. Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said in a press release: âWe are convinced that there are several potential paths to generate value from Ubisoftâs assets and franchises.â
Assassinâs Creed Shadows is now set to launch on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on March 20, 2025. It will be the first game in the franchise to skip PS4 in over a decade.
